When faced with a situation where a child desires something but the parent cannot afford it, the response depends on the child's age and the groundwork laid in understanding financial limitations. Starting with honesty, parents can acknowledge the child's desire while explaining budget constraints and the need to prioritize spending. For younger children, suggesting the item be added to a wish list can show understanding while providing potential ideas for future gifts. Teachers! Are you taking advantage of the Educator Expense Deduction? This can allow you to deduct hundreds of dollars from your taxes.If you are a teacher, instructor, counselor, principal, or aide for grades K-12, you are eligible to deduct up to $300 ($600 if married and both you and your spouse are eligible educators) of unreimbursed business expenses, such as books, supplies, and other equipment that you use in your classroom.
