Market Basket is, for all practical purposes, a legendary supermarket chain of 90 stores in New England. When I moved to Massachusetts I encountered Market Basket for the first time. I know the Somerville store well since it's the only city I've lived in after arriving in the state. The store is known for having very competitive prices and a wonderful, hardworking staff. It's very popular, especially with immigrants. But Market Basket has caught additional attention. A 2017 Consumer Reports article entitled, "Faster, Fresher, Cheaper: The Grocery Shopping Revolution," stated: "In our latest ratings of 62 supermarkets and food retailers, based on survey responses from almost 58,000 subscribers, ­East Coast chain Wegmans earned the top spot, a place it has held since 2006...Other stores that did very well overall include Trader Joe's, Publix, and the family-owned Market Basket chain, serving the Northeast." All this means that the tempo in the store is almost always hectic. But when it comes to the day before Thanksgiving, well, let's just say that things go many notches higher. But surprisingly the staff seems to take it in stride.
