ANSWER: I believe this is a space where I can grow.  I chose to join BNI because I recognised the immense value of being part of a community of like-minded professionals.    BNI offers a structured environment where businesses can connect, collaborate, and help each other grow through referral marketing. ANSWER: The opportunity to create something meaningful and impactful. Beyond that, my family and the desire to build something lasting for them constantly inspire me.   Q – What is your favourite quote? ANSWER: "The role of an architect is to create a world that inspires people." Norman Foster (my favourite architect)   Q – What is one thing you regret and one thing you are so happy about? ANSWER: I regret not taking more risks and being true to myself earlier in my career. On the other hand, I am incredibly happy about the balance I am gradually building between my family and my career. A bit late, but a few reflections on last weeks' event at Broadway Malyan, part of this year’s London Festival of Architecture. Dr Ana McMillin brought together a fascinating panel who presented their interpretation of the event title “Reimagine Spaces”, linked (for us at least) by the threads of storytelling and how to involve communities in a meaningful way. Amongst much else, we heard: How street theatre and performance can tell some of the most important stories in society – and bring culture in a really accessible way to places that don’t have traditional venues or companies. How a temporary garden (and the unforgettable ‘Witness Tree’) enabled a team to work hand in hand with a community, understand their wants and needs and have an opportunity to try out ideas. Bringing hope, dignity and aspiration to a former red light district by really understanding the culture of a place and making sure the local people are involved in every step to define the new identity….a much more inclusive approach to ‘place branding’.   Space as a place for remembrance; and using simple, temporary installations to create an entirely different atmosphere and environment, a backdrop for story telling and sharing.   Giving space for free is a forward investment in local businesses and the wider community that enables new development and regeneration to thrive. And, by prioritising local businesses, bringing people round to a different way of using retail spaces. The importance of an active developer/investor. Entrances go beyond being mere doorways—they influence us! I've experienced firsthand how these transitional spaces can influence our emotions and behaviours. It's fascinating to discover it! 💡 Think about it: a bright and welcoming entrance can make you feel excited and ready to explore.  Conversely, a dark, cramped exit might leave you feeling uneasy. 💡 These spaces aren't just about moving from point A to point B—they're where social interactions happen. A well-designed entrance can encourage mingling and networking. Whereas, a chaotic exit might make you want to rush away. 💡 The layout and design of these spaces affect how safe and in control we feel. Clear signs and easy paths make us feel secure, while confusion can leave us feeling vulnerable. Plus, our experiences in these spaces shape our habits.
