Andy's place is helping save lives, and I know this because it is helping save mine on Saturdays. I get to see and feel it every weekend and its one of the most amazing thing's to experience. Humans coming together around a table to BE THERE for each other's real life problems. To BE THERE to help each other live the lives we were meant to live, vs the life we are struggling to keep together. It's around tables like these that have helped me more than anything. Lessons on how to live a better life. Lessons on how to BE THERE to serve others. Lessons on how this very moment is the best moment of our lives, for whatever the moment is trying to teach us about the situation, or ourselves. Our world needs more places like Andy's place. Mass fatality planning 101: be careful with your language. I encourage any potential responding partners to learn the difference between a “family reunification center”, “family assistance center”, and a “community resilience center” and make sure all the community partners agree on these definitions. Each center plays a fairly different role and occurs at a different time (some overlapping) during response/recovery operations. Also don’t forget to bring your medical facilities into the conversation because depending on the scale of the event and the type of casualties, area hospitals may need to stand up their own temporary reunification centers while families can await news of their loved ones receiving treatment.
