Mumbai (then called Bombay), with its bustling streets and relentless pace, welcomed me with open arms. But it wasn’t all glitz and glamour. The initial struggle was real—finding my footing, navigating crowded local trains, and adapting to the city’s rhythm. 🌆 Challenges Galore: Mumbai threw challenges my way—professional challenges, personal struggles, and moments when I questioned my choices. Yet, each challenge became an opportunity to learn, adapt, and grow. The city’s resilience rubbed off on me, and I found strength in its chaos. 🌱 Growth Amidst Chaos: From those early interviews to now, I’ve witnessed Mumbai evolve. The city taught me to hustle, innovate, and collaborate. 🌏 How do you meaningfully design a mansterplan for a manufacturing plant in a rural Southern India? How do you create a meaningful place identity and a vision of the place to showcase to your stakeholders? How do you attract top talent to work and live in a remote location with sparse connectivity, opportunity and entertainment? These were some of the questions beyond design explored with our Client CEAT Limited and project partners Concept Culture and Rumi Bose during recent stakeholder engagement workshops in India. As part of the place identity development of the master plan design for CEAT’s new manufacturing plant in Chennai, we ran two stakeholder engagement workshops - one in Chennai and another in Mumbai. We also had the opportunity to dive into Kanchipuram's local history, culture and community. Trip Highlights: ⚫ Workshop in Chennai: We ran an enjoyable team workshop and engaged with 30 CEAT employees to gather insights on themes like Place Identity, Physical Environment, and Community Engagement. ⚫ Visit to Kanchipuram: We immersed ourselves in the rich heritage by visiting historic temples, experiencing a Bharatnatyam dance performance, and exploring local crafts like Golu dolls and silk weaving. ⚫ Workshop in Mumbai: We collaborated with CEAT’s senior leadership to explore place identity and emerging themes from the key learnings from our Chennai experiences. 🎥We also captured all the highlights in a video.
