What's YouthWave Games thinkging about apple news? Most gamers in Africa aren't using the latest iPhones. According to StatCounter Global Stats, Android dominates 85% to 90% of the smartphone market across many African countries, while iPhones hold less than 10%. Rather than focusing on the latest tech, we're focusing on developing HTML5 and YouTube-based games. These are lightweight, instantly accessible, and work on almost any device, offering a broader reach to players, regardless of their hardware. We believe this is the future for gaming in Africa, where scalability and accessibility are key. https://lnkd.in/edyCPB_8

Apple has approved Epic Games' games marketplace app on iPhones and iPads in Europe, following a feud between the two companies. Epic had accused Apple of hindering its efforts to set up a games store on its devices. Apple said the approval concerns the Epic Sweden AB Marketplace and is unrelated to the Fortnite app, which has already been approved. The move comes after Epic alleged that Apple rejected its submissions to launch the Epic Games Store due to similarities in button and label designs. Epic argued that Apple's rejection was "arbitrary, obstructive, and in violation of the DMA (Digital Markets Act)" and shared its concerns with the European Commission. The Commission, which is investigating Apple's app validation processes, declined to comment. The dispute is the latest in an ongoing legal battle between Epic and Apple, which began in 2020 over Apple's 30% commission on in-app payments. Apple has since proposed changes to its App Store policies to comply with the DMA, but developers have found some of the changes exploitative. . . . #Technology #Apple #EpicGames #Gaming #AppStore #DMA #EuropeanCommission #tribunetrends

Epic Games is making a significant move towards expanding its market presence by partnering with Telefónica to preinstall the Epic Games Store on millions of Android devices, including Samsung phones, across the UK, Germany, Spain, and Latin America. This strategic partnership marks the first instance of the Epic Games Store being preinstalled on consumer phones, potentially challenging Google's app store dominance and boosting Epic's revenue share. This development follows a legal victory for Epic against Google, where it was determined that Google had created an illegal monopoly with its Android app store. As Epic continues to forge partnerships, the landscape of mobile gaming and app distribution could see substantial shifts.

Many gamers have chalked up AAA games on iPhone as a failure. But Apple isn't throwing in the towel yet At last week's Apple Event the company talked a lot about AAA games on the iPhone 16, including the release of the upcoming Honor of Kings World I think it's too early to count Apple out of the AAA ecosystem, as longer-term tailwinds all point to the tech giant having a role - Gamers want to be free of hardware lock-in - Mobile is still the largest and fastest-growing segment in games - Hardware constraints usually get overcome Distribution has always been the most important part of the gaming value chain, and it seems like Apple isn't satisfied just ceding the $100bn AAA gaming market away to its competitors. In fact, it seems like it's taking a page directly out of the Steam playbook - lead with must-have content, and build the distribution platform from there What do you think? Will AAA games on iPhone ever take off? Or maybe the better question is - what would it take for you to engage in a AAA gaming experience on your phone? #Games #Gaming #GamesIndustry #Apple #iphone16 #Tencent #HonorofKings #HoK #Steam #Valve #Distribution #Content #videogames

For all its success, Apple Inc. has never really cracked the gaming market — at least when it comes to consoles or computers. The company’s first meaningful attempt was the Pippin, a home game console co-developed in the 1990s — back before Steve Jobs returned to Apple to save it from bankruptcy. It was a commercial flop and pulled from the market after about a year. Over the subsequent decades, Apple approached the gaming market differently, making it a big part of the App Store, iPhone and iPad. But the company still didn’t have much sway over living-room gaming. Now, Apple has another shot. It just released a new Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chips — and the company finally has a device that could become a respectable gaming machine. The combination of the Mac’s small size and formidable processing power — plus the ability to easily connect it to a living room TV setup — makes it the ideal starting point for a fresh push into the field. https://lnkd.in/gF9eX4cG
