Bricolage; Polaroids from the future. We have just been awarded a prize in the open ideas competition for the future of Refshaleøen. A vibrant semi-derelict post-industrial district in Copenhagen. Our proposal uses the instant Polaroid as a medium to convey eye level snapshots from a future developed #Refshaleøen. Each image represents a vision or idea of how to design the urban fabric in a way that retains the identity of the area whilst adding new programs and developing the area fully. There is a high focus on #lowcarbon construction, #biodiversity and #socialinclusion as well as unique spatial interventions and #diversity of functions #urbanplanning #copenhagen #future #cities #architecture #builtenvironment We look forward to a continued dialogue with Refshaleøens Ejendomsselskab and Udviklingsselskabet By & Havn

Heligoland by Artemide is directly inspired by this sophisticated construction principle: Carlotta de Bevilacqua's design is an ideally balanced ceiling lamp composed of compact, hexagonal elements. The power distribution of the LEDs makes a decisive contribution to the excellent energy balance: All optical cells connected to a network work together to increase the density of the luminous flux.

As an architect, I am an unabashed disciple of the Bauhaus Movement in art and design. I developed my design aesthetic from the philosophy of "less is more" and expanded upon that foundation with a study of the "Prairie style" of architecture," as exemplified by the works of Frank Lloyd Wright. I then further refined my knowledge of the philosophies underlying architectural design through a study of Afrocentric architecture, as described in the groundbreaking 1994 book by Prof. David Hughes, FAIA, titled "Afrocentric Architecture: a design primer."

Landscape / Architecture / Context: these topics resonate deeply with my vision of architecture as a reflection and safeguard of geography and identity. I am reposting here the conference info for my friends in Shanghai
Richard Wood, Managing Director Asia, and Cheng Gong, Studio Director China from Snøhetta, are invited to give a lecture titled "Landscape: the connector" at Shanghai Jiao Tong University on December 11. The sharing still start at 2.30pm at Yunjing Lecture Hall, School of Design. Landscape has long been a driving factor of Snøhetta's work. Since its inception in 1989, the firm has consistently comprised of both architects and landscape architects working closely with other disciplines and designers. Landscape is integral to its architectural vision, creating spaces that resonate with people and their natural surroundings. This approach has allowed Snøhetta to craft environments that not only serve functional purposes but also foster a deep connection to nature. In this lecture, Richard and Cheng will explore several new projects, highlighting the intricate interplay between landscapes and buildings. They will delve into the fundamental human need for a connection with nature and ecology, and how this drives their design philosophy. Ultimately creating buildings and landscapes which serve as community centers, fostering engagement and social interactions. The lecture is free and open to the public. Please use ID card to enter the campus. #Snøhetta #landscape #architecture #Shanghai
