🌎 Exporting Fresh Fruit to the U.S.: Key Insights 🍊 Enrique Rojas, an international business coordinator at Trade & Business Partners, highlighted at the recent webinar that the U.S. is a vital trade partner for Latin American countries, particularly in the agro-industrial sector. With over 350 million consumers, North America represents the largest fruit and perishable products market in the world. Key considerations for exporters include: Strategic Logistics: Southeast Florida, especially the Port of Miami and the Port of Everglades, is a major entry point. Identifying the right market region is crucial. Market Demand: Each U.S. state has different demands, necessitating clear market segmentation. Regulations: While tariffs are generally low (0% for most fruits), compliance with FDA registration and documentation is essential. Ecuadorian banana exports have surged by 26%, and other fruits like pitahaya and pineapple have seen significant growth. This is a testament to the increasing demand for healthy food options! https://lnkd.in/eZ4H-xaJ #FruitExports #InternationalTrade #AgroIndustry #Ecuador

#EuropeanMarket #ProcessFruitsAndVegetables #SustainableProcessFood #Europe #SangeetaVetal_Lad. Europe is the largest market for processed fruit and vegetables in the world, absorbing more global supplies than any other continent. In 2023, European imports of processed fruit and vegetables represented 42% of global imports in value, followed by Asia (30%), North America (19%), Latin America and Caribbean (4%), Africa (3%) and Oceania (2%). #Germany and the #Netherlands are Europe’s main importers of processed fruit and vegetables, making them interesting focus markets. Both markets have large shares of imports from developing countries. The main difference between the two is that the Netherlands re-exports most imported products. Germany is also a significant re-exporter but also the largest consumer and processor of imported products. France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain are other promising markets with a large share of imports from developing countries. #PromisingProductsExport to #Europe 1. Frozen/Dried Berries 2. Despite the continuing absence of any charter market activity, the reefer fleet remains gainfully employed. The challenge for operators over the next 6 weeks is to secure enough business during the transition from the southern hemisphere deciduous to the citrus and kiwifruit seasons. With vessels employed on long-term charters in the South Atlantic, ballasting across the Pacific to New Zealand, securing post Marketing Order table grape positions and positioning for a record South African citrus crop, the short to medium-term prospects for operators are good. Following the success of its table grape-dominated programme to Europe and the Baltic, the Reefer Alliance appears set to increase its market share of South African citrus shipments to Europe and the Far East. The Baltic Patriot is to be the first South African citrus vessel to Far East, laycan week 17/18. South Africa is forecast to ship record citrus volumes this year. A year-on-year increase in exports is anticipated across all categories despite higher costs, ongoing logistical issues and discriminatory trade barriers. Meanwhile, according to the projections provided by the Chilean Citrus Fruit Committee, Chilean citrus exports will reach a total of 383,000 tonnes in 2024, 4% less than the 2023 season. While orange and soft citrus volumes are forecast to fall, exports of lemons are expected to grow 33% to 90K MT. The principal reason for the reduction in volume is the water restriction imposed in the main clementine-producing areas of the Coquimbo region. The supply and demand for capacity in the small segment remains in balance, with the number of positions roughly equivalent to the number of open vessels....... In an article for UK publication The Grocer, international co-ordinator at NGO Banana Link Alistair Smith argues that the economics of selling bananas too cheaply makes no sense. He says that the prices retailers pay suppliers must go up and that the era of super-cheap banana prices for consumers must draw to a close. He says that the bottom line is that consumer prices, and correspondingly the prices paid per box to banana producers, are nowhere near sustainable. More controversially he adds that: “The latest message from the World Banana Forum is not an appeal to the good ethics of major buyers but can be taken as a warning that if price increases are not agreed, they will be imposed.” Mr. Smith doesn’t suggest who might impose the price increases, but he does go on to say that climate change will make banana exports unviable in many countries of origin and, if so, the rising temperatures will lead to lower production and higher prices....../

FISH and SHELLFISH to the EU? Exporting fish and shellfish to the EU can be lucrative, but it comes with several challenges when dealing with centralised purchasing offices, retailers, and wholesale distributors. Here are some of the main challenges exporters may face: - Regulatory compliance: The EU has stringent regulations regarding food safety, labeling, and packaging. Ensuring compliance with these regulations can be complex and costly for exporters, especially small-scale producers. - Quality standards: EU consumers have high expectations for the quality and freshness of seafood products. Meeting these standards consistently can be challenging, particularly for exporters located far from the EU market. - Documentation and certifications: Exporters must provide various documents and certifications to prove the origin, quality, and safety of their products. Obtaining and maintaining these documents can be time-consuming and require knowledge of EU regulations. - Logistics: Maintaining the freshness of fish and shellfish during transportation to the EU is crucial. Exporters need reliable logistics partners and efficient transportation methods to ensure their products arrive in optimal condition. - Competitive pricing: The EU seafood market is competitive, and exporters may face pressure to offer competitive prices while maintaining quality standards. This can be challenging, especially when competing with larger producers or exporters from countries with lower production costs. - Market access and tariffs: Tariffs and trade barriers can affect the competitiveness of seafood exports to the EU. - Market preferences: Centralized purchasing offices, retailers, and wholesale distributors in the EU have specific preferences and requirements regarding seafood and aquaculture products. Exporters need to understand these preferences and tailor their products and marketing strategies accordingly. - Transparency: Increasingly, consumers in the EU are concerned about the sustainability and ethical sourcing of seafood products. Exporters may face pressure to provide transparency and traceability throughout the supply chain. - Demand fluctuations: The demand for seafood products in the EU can vary seasonally and due to factors such as changing consumer preferences or economic conditions. Exporters need to adapt to these fluctuations and manage their production and inventory accordingly. - Cultural and linguistic differences: Effective communication and understanding of cultural differences are essential when dealing with buyers in the EU. Exporters may need to overcome language barriers and cultural differences to build successful relationships with buyers. Addressing these challenges requires careful planning, investment in resources, and collaboration with reliable partners to navigate the complexities of the EU seafood market effectively. #seafood #fish #shellfish #trade #internationaltrade #eu #seg Image by bearfotos on Freepik

For the 2025 season we expect a high demand in North America for Argentina pears, since their reports show Green Anjou and Green Bartlett are down 26% and 18% respectively. This will make European demand surge as well, since the Conference pear harvest is about 15% less. Italy's recovery of Abate is significant, but still did not reach their full potential, and will impact our exports in this variety. Regarding Williams in general, it is 30% above, but our fresh 2025 production should overlap perfectly. Fruit World will be present as from Week 5 in 2025 with their premium pears brand Don Elias to help with the shortages in Europe," explains Lyons. #grow🌱 #agriculture #supplychain #trade #usa🇺🇸 #markets #commodities #pears🍐 #heatwave☀️ #yields #argentina🇦🇷 #exports #freight #eu🇪🇺
