Ask any sales or marketing professional… Launching new products and building new territories is not easy. Over a year ago my husband, Dean Peaple , joined this company to launch a new division of window coverings. Through operations and production challenges, changes in leadership and the minimal marketing support common with ‘startups’ - my husband never gave up! I have watched him be tenacious and creative, using common sense, guerilla tactics, and teamwork- always finding a way. I know the road is long, - and I admire my husbands patience and perseverance. When you work hard and see a reward with a Win like this- you have to celebrate! Most of us are so busy doing the work we do- we forget to take time to celebrate the wins. It’s as easy as 123… 1. Remember Arthur's Day? Launched on this day 2009 at 17:59 by Diageo to celebrate the 250th anniversary of Guinness, it was a global event with concerts and nationwide toasts. Yet, despite the initial buzz, the event fizzled out by 2014. So, what happened? While intended to celebrate a beloved brand, many saw Arthur’s Day as a corporate marketing move designed to drive alcohol sales. When people feel they’re being sold to, rather than included in a meaningful celebration, they disengage. Lesson: Consumers are savvy—authenticity matters. The event faced criticism for promoting binge drinking in a country already grappling with alcohol-related issues. It resulted in increased hospital admissions and public disorder, which painted Diageo in a negative light. Unlike St. Patrick's Day, Arthur’s Day lacked deep roots in Irish culture, making it feel more like a PR event than a genuine tradition. Lesson: To build lasting connections, align your brand with what resonates deeply with your audience. Arthur’s Day teaches us that even the most powerful brands need to tread carefully between marketing, social responsibility, and cultural alignment. Loblaws, Canadian company, largest Canadian food retailer, even owns Real Canadian Liquorstore, and Zehrs, hmmm didn't know that. Empire Company Limited, parent company of Sobeys, Safeway and Freshco, second largest food retailer in Canada. Metro Inc., third largest food retailer in Canada. Walmart Canada, fourth largest. Costco Wholesale Canada, fifth largest. Walmart and Costco, originated in the States. The Canadian only retailers have signed on, Loblaws has "signed" but with conditions, contingent on all signing. Walmart and Costco have not, good luck getting them to agree. Keep barking chihuahua, nobody cares about the BS Grocery Code of Conduct you're trying to get signed. Doesn't mean grocery prices will come down, it's just like an alliance between the top five. Stakeholders may benefit, not consumers.
