#Soildegradation is a growing crisis, with 33% of global soils already degraded. Yet, the solution lies beneath our feet. Healthy soils sequester carbon, enhance water retention, and boost #biodiversity while feeding the world at the same time. On this #WorldSoilDay, MOTHERLAND🌍 would like to shine a spotlight on the foundation of life, #soil. This year’s theme, “Caring for Soils: #Measure, #Monitor, #Manage,” stresses the critical role of understanding and maintaining #soilhealth to ensure global #foodsecurity and #environmental resilience. One of our key objectives since we started our operations in January 2023, has been the championing of #regenerativeagriculture, a farming approach that not only produces food but also nurtures the #soil. Our farmers in #Siaya understand that healthy soil is the key to thriving communities and a #sustainable planet. So far, we have trained over 800 farmers to think differently about their land, by adopting practices like #croprotation, #organicfertilization, and #minimaltillage. By adoption of these practices, they’re doing agriculture that thinks about #soilrestoration. Healthy soils mean a healthy future. We are therefore committed to championing practices that enrich our land and empower farmers to build a more resilient world. #WorldSoilDay #RegenerativeAgriculture #HealthySoils #Motherland #soilhealth #biodiversity

World Soil Day 2024: Championing Soil Health, Carbon Sequestration, and a Sustainable Future 🌍 Today, as we celebrate World Soil Day, it’s crucial to reflect on the fundamental role soil plays in sustaining life on Earth. As an organic certification professional, I am privileged to witness firsthand how healthy soils form the backbone of organic farming. But beyond regulatory compliance, my mission—and that of countless farmers—is to protect, enrich, and regenerate the soil for future generations. The Power of Soil Organic Matter (SOM): Beyond Just Dirt Soil is much more than a medium for plant growth. It’s a living, breathing ecosystem. At the heart of this ecosystem is Soil Organic Matter (SOM)—a blend of decomposed plant and animal residues, living organisms, and humus. SOM is essential for: Enhanced Soil Fertility: It releases nutrients slowly, providing a natural, sustainable source of fertility Improved Water Retention: Soils rich in organic matter retain more moisture, reducing the need for irrigation and enhancing drought resilience. Biodiversity Boost: Healthy soils are teeming with life, from beneficial microbes to earthworms, all of which contribute to soil vitality. On this World Soil Day, let’s commit to transforming our relationship with soil. Whether you’re a farmer, policymaker, business leader, or consumer, we all have a role to play Let’s celebrate the soil today and nurture it every day. Together, we can heal the Earth, one field at a time. 🌍🌱 #WorldSoilDay #SoilHealth #CarbonSequestration #OrganicFarming #Sustainability #ClimateAction #SoilStewardship #OrganicCertification

🌍 World Soil Day: Measure, Monitor, Manage! 🌱 On this World Soil Day, let’s focus on the powerful theme: Measure, Monitor, Manage. Healthy soil is vital to growing nutritious crops, improving biodiversity, and building resilience against climate change. But soil health can only improve if we understand and track its condition. Here’s why these three actions matter: Measure: Regular soil testing helps us understand nutrient levels, pH balance, and organic matter, providing the foundation for informed decisions. This is the first step in managing soil health and avoiding overuse of fertilizers and chemicals. Monitor: Soil health can change over time due to environmental conditions and farming practices. Continuous monitoring helps us detect these shifts early, allowing timely intervention to prevent erosion, nutrient depletion, and loss of biodiversity. Manage: With the insights from measuring and monitoring, we can adopt sustainable soil management practices, like crop rotation, cover cropping, and reduced tillage. Thoughtful management supports long-term productivity and ecosystem health, ensuring our soils remain fertile for generations. Let’s commit to a soil-conscious future—where we care for the land that sustains us. When we measure, monitor, and manage soil health, we pave the way for more resilient agriculture and a healthier planet. #WorldSoilDay #MeasureMonitorManage #SoilHealth #SustainableAgriculture #CropScience #SoilTesting #HealthySoils

#WorldSoilDay2024 Soil is the foundation of life on Earth, yet more than one-third of it is already degraded. This alarming trend will persist unless we recognize the issue and take proactive steps to address it. The theme for this year's 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐨𝐢𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲, "𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐒𝐨𝐢𝐥𝐬: 𝐌𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞, 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫, 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞," underscores the critical need for accurate soil data to guide informed decision-making. At Pragya, soil testing forms the backbone of our crop advisory services and our implementation of Climate Smart Agriculture strategies. At Pragya, soil testing is a cornerstone of our agri-extension and advisory services for beneficiary farmers. Farmers collect soil samples and have them analysed at our Agri-extension Clinics, where they receive detailed soil health reports. Based on these insights, we provide personalized recommendations on integrated nutrient management, crop rotation, and other sustainable practices. This tailored approach empowers farmers to enhance soil health sustainably, ensuring long-term productivity and resilience. By prioritizing soil health, let’s ensure sustainable livelihoods, climate resilience, and a thriving planet for generations to come. #WorldSoilDay #CaringForSoil #SoilHealth #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateSmartFarming #SoilTesting #SustainableFarming #ClimateResilience #SoilSustainability #HealthySoilHealthyPlanet #SustainableLivelihoods #RegenerativeFarming #AgricultureInnovation #SoilManagement #FarmersFirst #Pragya #WorldSoilDay2024 Arun Kumar Jimmy Gibson Rohan Pathania Sayak Chakraborty Gokul Krishna E P

🌍 World Soil Day 🌿 🌱 Join us in celebrating #WorldSoilDay today to acknowledge the critical role of healthy soil in achieving #sustainable and #resilient agrifood systems. This year’s theme, “Caring for Soils: Measure, Monitor, Manage”, stresses the need for accurate soil data to support sustainable decision-making and engages citizens in efforts to enhance soil health around the world. 🌳 Every year, 10 million hectares of arable land - about 14 million football fields - are lost due to unsustainable agricultural practices, deforestation, and other human activities, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). However, healthy soils are essential for producing food, regulating the climate, and maintaining ecosystems, biodiversity, and water resources. 🪱 Sustainable soil management - a key focus of biodynamic farming – fosters soil biodiversity, improves soil health, and sequesters carbon, making it essential in combating climate change and feeding the world. 👉 More information: https://bit.ly/3ZlM0ph 📷 Eva Wolf #CaringForSoils #WSD #WSD2024 #SoilFertility #SoilHealth #BiodynamicAgriculture #BiodynamicFarming #HolisticFarming #Demeter #DemeterInternational #DemeterStandards #DemeterCertification #Regenerative
