Unions are powering the clean energy revolution by pushing for ambitious offshore wind targets to help tackling climate change, while creating good-paying jobs. They're pushing New England to triple its offshore wind target to 30 GW by 2040—enough to meet all the region's electricity demand. Currently, 55% of power comes from gas, while wind is just 4%. Time to build a greener future! #UnionStrong #CleanEnergy

For one small North Carolina town, the fight begins. Congratulations Carrboro! Please don't forget about the social, economic, and safety impacts caused by this corporate greed. Duke, as an investor--owned utility, will use every bit of their resources to make and increase their profits directly on the back of the citizens of Carrboro, and other North Carolina towns. Fight for public power, ownership of the generation and transmission/distribution by the people. Connect with other municipalities and counties that want to do the same. If you're reading this, please consider following and sending support however you can. Also, if you are in a leadership role in a town or county being taken advantage of by an investor-owned utility, please know you are not alone. Together we can change this. #publicpower, #renewableenergy, #powertothepeople, #endcorporategreed, #energyindependence
The Town of Carrboro sued Duke Energy Corp. today (Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2024) for the company’s decades-long role leading a nationwide climate deception scheme that has worsened the climate crisis, harmed the community and cost the town millions of dollars. The lawsuit seeks to hold Duke Energy accountable for the damages inflicted on Carrboro by the corporation’s campaign to delay the transition from planet-heating fossil fuels to renewable energy. Town officials held a news conference at Carrboro Town Hall to discuss the lawsuit, which is the first to challenge an electric utility for knowingly deceiving the public about fossil fuels’ dangers. “We have to speak truth to power as we continue to fight the existential threat that is climate change. The climate crisis continues to burden our community and cost residents their hard-earned tax dollars,” said Carrboro Mayor Barbara Foushee. “Duke Energy’s knowledge of the environmental injustice being caused by the use of fossil fuels has unfairly plagued our community for decades. Historically underserved and marginalized communities are facing disproportionate impacts and health risks that are associated with climate change. This was not an easy decision to make but I believe that we must be courageous as we call out these injustices and seek change and accountability.” 🔗 https://lnkd.in/euRP7ACk . . . #carrboro #carrboronc #SueDukeEnergy

Lobby money...and then we subsidize the oil and gas industry. And then they announce record profits. And then they continue to pollute. And the big banks make sure they have the money to develop more industry. And then they make sure single use plastic production will continue to increase even though it is killing us by polluting waterways and the ocean. Then they make sure textiles and fashion are making lots of oil based products and fast fashion killing us too. They hide this behind closed doors in secret meetings. But we can see how lobbyists take over every gathering about the future. It needs to be called out! The economy is a Fairy Tale. The results we are seeing across the globe is a Horror Story! Thanks for this insight! #oilandgas #lobbyists #fastfashion #plasticpollution #oceans #bigbanks #future #airpollution #microplastics #humanhealth #greenwashing #subsidies
🚨 #MeetYourLobbyist part 3! A tour of the most powerful lobbies in Europe that are changing YOUR life without any ou even knowing it. Today, we paid a little visit to the International Oil & Gas producers association, one of the biggest group representing fossill fuel companies in Europe. If you look at their website, you’d think they’re super into energy transition & climate ambition. But no! Their main mission is to keep us hooked to oil & gas for as long as possible 😬 A few years ago, as people were facing crazy high bills, they were working hard behind the scenes against windfall taxes 🤦🏼♀️ Because what’s best than economic poverty & climate disaster? Protecting the industry’s profits of course! Hope you enjoy :) 📹 Lucie Morauw

Fracking, oil, gas, fossil fuels and pipelines featured heavily in this debate. We are at 418ppm (CO2) today and rising. Communicators face an enormous challenge in informing the electorate of the opportunities inherent in cheaper and available clean energy. We can’t expect politicians and policy makers to fully endorse the energy transition when public opinion is shaped by gas prices and addiction to fossil fuels. That would take some bold leadership and that’s risky business in a highly polarized country. Reality is that the ship is turning if not by choice, by force (of nature). It just needs to happen fast enough and that’s where public opinion and policy can make a difference. #US #presidentialdebate #strategiccommunication #energy #climate https://lnkd.in/grA7mTPC

🎃 This Halloween, the scariest thing isn’t ghosts or ghouls – it’s the threat to our planet from projects like Rosebank. Sign our letter to Equinor CEO, Anders Opedal & key Norwegian politicians calling on them to #StopRosebank: https://bit.ly/4hgAHFX Rosebank, the UK's largest undeveloped oil and gas field, would lock us into decades of fossil fuel extraction, leaving future generations to face the terrifying consequences we are already seeing - rising seas, deadly heatwaves and extreme weather. This isn’t just an energy project – it’s a future our children will inherit. And that is the real horror. But here’s the good news: Strong, vocal communities have the power to change everything. We’ve done it before, and we will do it again. When we speak up, show up and demand better, governments and companies listen. 💪✨ Let’s #StopRosebank and create a world where our kids can dream of bright futures, not face climate nightmares. 💚✨ #NoNewOilAndGas #ClimateJustice #ClimateAction #ParentLove Norway's Prime Minister, Jonas Gahr Støre; Norway's Minister of Trade and Industry, Cecile Myrseth; and Norway's Ambassador to the UK, Tore Hattrem.

Would it be so off the mark to consider the O&G companies paying for the changes needed to save our planet? The effects on the ordinary citizen in every country of the world is enormous. Most are unable to move to a “safer” home. We cannot all change from gas-powered vehicles to electric vehicles. The expense is overwhelming for every family. However, the billions in profits by BP, Shell, Mobil, etc could easily be used to makes these changes. Perhaps it is time to nationalize this industry. Of course, this is an international problem and the renegade regimes I Russia and Saudia Arabia, for example, need special consideration. Can the USA lead this effort? I don’t know but the discussion needed to start years ago. #democrats #energy #climatechange #republicans https://lnkd.in/gMxuj4Wg

OUR CATEGORICAL IMPERATIVE TO FIGHT CLIMATE CHANGE Climate change is not "a hoax." It is also called "Climate Hell" (UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres) because it is a crisis that has become an emergency. Climate change affects everyone but the poor and most vulnerable population groups are affected more than the wealthy people and countries. Environmental injustice is a reality that needs to be addressed with a sense of urgency. It's uplifting to realize that that many grassroots efforts are taking place to fix environmental injustice. I hope many countries and organizations will do their best to overcome greed and understand the fierce urgency of green revolution and green economy, the like of which I discuss in my award-winning book, "OBAMANOMICS AND FRANCISCONOMICS: A Call for Poverty Alleviation, Fairness, and Welfare" (Europe Books London, 2022). Happy holidays! #zekehgbotokuma #ObamanomicsandFrancisconomics
