THE ART OF PROMPTING IN AI-HUMAN INTERACTION In this edition of Product Design Commentary, our product team explores how UX designers are refining AI interactions through practical and effective prompting. As AI continues to become a regular part of our digital experiences, designers are faced with new challenges in improving human-machine communication. 1/ Prompts: The New GUI Well-crafted prompts play a pivotal role in shaping AI experiences. Designers must treat this as a practical tool, just like they did with graphical user interfaces in earlier phases of design. 2/ Context Matters AI communication relies heavily on context. It's not only about what users say, but the environment in which they interact. Designers can help shape that context for better results. 3/ The Power of System Prompts System prompts work behind the scenes to guide AI’s behavior. Thoughtful use of these prompts helps maintain a consistent tone and ensure ethical interactions. 4/ The Context Window Think of the context window as a design tool that helps AI retain important information across conversations, ensuring relevant responses without overwhelming the user. 👨🏫Just finished this interesting course “UX for AI: Design Practices for AI Developers” by John Maeda! 🧠In this course, John shares how Copilot logic is defined. Think of it like this. The human is the pilot and the AI is the copilot. While currently AI stacks are nondeterministic these patters can help users. ✨The Microsoft Collaborative UX Patterns: 🪧1. AI Notice - this content is AI-created and could be incorrect. This allows users to up their critical thinking. 🧐2. Suggested Prompts - Helpful popup buttons to forward the questions asked. This Leverages the AI’s intrinsic strengths. 🗣️3. Feedback Opportunities - Send us your feedback. This expects failures and improves with feedback. 🥹This course also covered designing for Feeling and The Power of Emotion in AI-powered UX As UX designers, we know great experiences go beyond functionality. This LinkedIn Learning course dives into the 🙈critical role of emotions in designing for AI-powered products! 🤦♂️Why focus on emotions? 🥹🟰💵Emotional connection drives user engagement: Understanding user emotions helps us create experiences that resonate and keep users coming back. 🤖➕🥹🟰💪AI can be powerful, but it can also feel cold or impersonal: Designing for emotional connection bridges the gap and fosters trust in AI features. 🥹➕👨🎨Considering emotions throughout the design process leads to a more holistic user experience. 📚This course equips you with: 👷♂️A framework for understanding user emotions in the context of AI.** 🤔Strategies to design AI interactions that evoke positive emotions.** ☹️Techniques for mitigating negative emotions associated with AI use.** 👍This course is a must-do! 🙋How do you consider user emotions when designing for AI features? 🙋♀️Have you encountered any challenges in designing for emotional connection in AI? #UXdesign #AI #EmotionalDesign #UserExperience #UserResearch #DesignThinking #HumanComputerInteraction #FutureofDesign https://lnkd.in/gwgxSnRE #artificialintelligencefordesign #userexperiencedesign #artificialintelligence.

This short course from John Maeda was incredibly interesting, with some thought provoking considerations for how we can create helpful 'co-pilots' (this is Microsoft after all) which collaborate with, rather than serve, the human operator. Where UX is usually about removing friction, in many places we need to insert it to ensure the human engages with the AI in an appropriate and mindful way. “UX for AI: Design Practices for AI Developers” by John Maeda! This is what makes the user experience for AI products and services VERY good... 🤖 Guided onboarding: When designing for AI, make sure your project includes a nice onboarding where you show your users the capabilities and limitations of your product — so they know not only how to use it, but as well what to expect from your AI solution so you avoid frustrations. 🤖 Build trust, but make your users think critically: We have seen ways of building trust and why building trust is so important, but we also need to make our users verify all the information the AI brings in the outcomes so our users just don't use all the information without thinking about it first — avoiding mistakes and more frustrations if the information was somehow wrong. 🤖 Plan for the unexpected: A good product is always a product that has a way to avoid mistakes. But also, a good product is a product that can help the users even if there is a mistake. Your design should include ways for the users to verify and regenerate outcomes if the experience was not what they were expecting. These are some of the ways you can design a very good user experience that will help and provide great value for your users 🫶🏼👩🏻💻 Have you ever used any of them? Which one was the most challenging one? _______________________________ Hey 👋🏻 I'm Micaela and my posts are dedicated to share my research, guides & resources for UX Designers to learn how to design AI products and services — so we can all design for a people-centred future 🤖🔍👩🏻💻💖 ________________________________ #uxdesign #womenintech #productdesign #aidesign #uxdesignforai

One AI UX tool you NEED to try! 😍 -- I tend to steer away from adding excess products to my tech stack [and especially weary when involving AI because I never had access to these when I studied. I'm a purist sorry] - I know I'm capable of doing most things manually and fairly quickly at this point. I've had a lingering task of reformatting typed out user journeys into proper UX journey map layouts. The thought of opening Figma and creating these [even using templates], typing out each step and distilling the insights seems pretty painful when I have 1000s of other things to do. Enter TheyDo - Journey Management I can simply paste the text from the written journeys and it maps it all out, even pulling out the painpoints, insights and needs. Alongside this you can setup your personas and more. I'm only just getting started. UXers, get on this!! Have you tried TheyDo? What other AI tools are ACTUALLY helping you in your workflow? -- Hi 👋 I'm Victoria. I help non-tech founders create products, affordably and effectively. Let's work together.
