If you are curious what it's like to participate in the SAE Baja student competition, check out this really well shot and edited 3min season recap video from Cornell Baja. In a nutshell, each year they design and build a new car, then 100+ teams meet three times a year at different venues to see who has the best car. Dynamic events are acceleration, sled pull or hill climb, a suspension torture test, a short maneuverability course, and an intense four-hour endurance race with all the cars on the track at once. There are also design, business, and cost static events. Competition season is upon us 💥 University of Toronto Formula Racing’s first competition of 2024 is here! New Hampshire Formula Hybrid + Electric is taking place at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The team shall be taking part in the EV category, where Maria shall be tested in three events: 1. Acceleration: A 75m drag strip from a standing start. 2. Autocross: A timed lap across a tight course, similar to a formula-style qualifying. 3. Endurance: A rigorous 44 km race testing long-term performance. Furthermore, there are two off-track presentations: 1. Design: explaining the intents and purposes of the engineering ideas brought to the car this year 2. Project Management: a logistical overview of our development programme. As the EV category's winner last time around, UTFR is excited to make our first competition a success. Last Thursday, 12th November 2024, I had the privilege of attending an inspiring talk by Pat Symonds at Cranfield University titled “Using Race Tyres” This presentation provided an in-depth exploration of the science behind tyre performance in motorsport, which is a critical factor in extracting peak performance on track. I was especially taken by the complex relationship between tyre compounds, temperature management, and grip performance. Pat highlighted how factors like the balance of elasticity and viscosity impact tyre grip and heat generation, demonstrating how even small changes in compound formulations or operating conditions can have a huge effect on performance. Finally, I would like to thank Pat Symonds for providing his valuable knowledge and inspiring all of us to continue pushing boundaries in motorsport engineering and also thank to Cranfield University and Prof James Brighton for facilitating this engaging session! #Motorsport #Engineering #TyreTechnology #CranfieldUniversity #PatSymonds

Chiplets are one of the most interesting advancements of our time, especially with the ongoing standardization efforts: for me, it's a game changer. However, I feel it doesn't receive the attention it deserves. François Piednoël de Normandie is one of those who regularly posts on the subject, which is at the core of his current professional work at Mercedes-Benz AG. I'm sharing with you a very interesting keynote :👀 https://lnkd.in/dmkcGXMc The presentation is, of course, focused on automotive applications and the advancements at Mercedes, but the lessons to be learned apply to many industries.
