Mount Sinai Hospital has received the highest designation in the Choosing Wisely Canada Hospital program, achieving the Leadership Status level. Choosing Wisely Canada works with national clinician societies to reduce unnecessary tests and treatments in Canada. This designation acknowledges Sinai Health’s commitment to enhancing the quality and safety of care by actively reducing unnecessary tests, treatments, and procedures. “We are deeply proud of the teams’ efforts attaining this status and sustaining improvements in so many areas for the last few years, including during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, when quality improvement work was especially challenging due to health system stressors,” said Dr. Christine Soong, Medical Director, Quality and Safety and Division Head of Hospital Medicine at Sinai Health. “It is incredible to be among a handful of hospitals leading this work and it demonstrates Mount Sinai’s deep commitment and outstanding leadership in the field of quality improvement.” Learn more about this incredible achievement: https://bit.ly/4eHNwq3 #ChoosingWisely #Recognition #ReducingUnnecessaryTests #HospitalTesting

Healthcare has been at the top of many Canadians’ minds, and it’s clear why. The pandemic has exposed the cracks in our system: longer wait times, burnout among medical professionals, and a shortage of primary care doctors. But what if there was a solution? Jane Philpott, former Canadian Minister of Health, family physician, and now Dean at Queen's University Faculty of Health Sciences and Director of the Queen’s School of Medicine, might have the answer. We sat down with Jane to chat about her new book, Health for All: A Doctor’s Prescription for a Healthier Canada, to understand how we got here, how we can fix it, and why women are disproportionately affected by lack of primary care access. Find out the answers to these questions and more today on The Honest Talk!

Recently, Canada’s Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Leigh Chapman, was in Geneva, Switzerland to attend the World Health Assembly, to learn how to better support Canada’s health workforce. The Government of Canada is committed to working with provinces and territories to support the health workforce by addressing challenges including: • Collaborating on retention issues; • Conducting a study to address the demand for education and training for health professions; • Reducing the time it takes for internationally educated health professionals to join Canada’s health workforce; • Increasing the sharing and standardization of health workforce data, and more. We are thrilled to announce that, as a direct outcome of the Canberra Roundtable convened in late March and led by Emerge Australia with the support of Open Medicine Foundation Australia, the Australian government has committed funding to update the clinical guidelines for ME/CFS and Long COVID. The current clinical guidelines for ME/CFS are over 20 years old and do not reflect the latest international best practices. Updating these guidelines is a significant milestone in ensuring that patients receive the most effective and up-to-date care possible, and are not subject to dangerous practices that are now known to worsen these conditions. The new guidelines will be developed through a rigorous process spearheaded by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), with thorough consultation and collaboration with all stakeholder groups over a two to three-year period. This comprehensive approach will involve input from: •Patients: Ensuring their experiences and needs are at the forefront. •Healthcare Professionals: Leveraging their frontline insights and expertise. •Experts: Incorporating the latest scientific research and global best practices. This announcement represents a monumental step forward in providing better care and support for over 250,000 Australians living with ME/CFS and the many more affected by Long COVID. We are delighted to see this commitment to improving the quality of life for these individuals through informed, compassionate, and effective medical care. We hope that this important first step acknowledges the broader support needed by a community of people who have been underserved by the healthcare system for decades and that it leads to more funding for medical research in the near future. #mecfs #pwME #pwLC #LongCOVID #clinicalguidelines

“The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed.” – Carl Jung It is close to that time of year again to down tools and prepare to engage in LM24 https://lnkd.in/gs9uwdHd, one of the most transformative conference on my calendar. I am looking forward to the 2024 Primary Health Care Congress - Building a joint vision for #primaryhealth care in Australia - important and it will take me away from a lot of the amazing program on day 1. What I won't miss though is: Empowering Health Transformation in the Northern Territory Through #SharedMedicalAppointments - John Stevens and Bob Morgan; ASLM Lifestyle Medicine Plenary: Redefining Healthcare from Pills to Prowess Through #LifestyleMedicine - Mark Horowitz, Nick Zwar Tetyana Rocks 🇺🇦 Implementing The #Maudsley #Deprescribing Guidelines: Using Lifestyle Medicine to support patient transition to drug free - Mark Horowitz, Katharine Wallis Sam Manger I am really going to be rivetted to these discussions. As always at LM conferences there will be hard choices between sessions and topics. However, there are no competition for my time for health and wellbeing sessions - The Heart Foundation Walk and the ASLM Wellness Activity. Best of all hands down we get to honour the achievements of our members during the ASLM Excellence #Awards and #Fellowship Ceremony. What a treat. I hope to meet many members and friends of ASLM, APNA and health professionals dedicated to the global lifestyle medicine movement. Let's interact and be transformed for the sake of our future health care system. VIDEO. I watch a number of videos of various Winnipeg, Manitoba, hospitals, and I learn about healthcare approaches in the province. How over the 2 past centuries the merger of 3 hospitals into Winnipeg's biggest hospital, the Winnipeg Health Science Centre, HSC for short. The Women's hospital, completely in glass so that there is a feeling of connection to the outside and the community. The biggest palliative centre in another hospital, the fireworks displays on New Year's by the Riverside Hospital, with citizens coming to see it and causing traffic lines. It is very interesting learning about hospitals across Canada in the different provinces and the different approaches and philosophies that each hospital has which is represented in the design of the hospital.
