More critical access hospitals have converted to rural emergency hospital (REH) status so far in 2024 (six) than in all of 2023 (five). While the overall pace of conversion to REH is about the same, less sole community hospitals have converted so far this year. In total, 27 hospitals have converted to REH status since eligibility began in January 2023.
Tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 29, we’ll make Georgia history when the doors to Arthur M. Blank Hospital officially open. Here are four things you need to know.👇
1) At 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, Arthur M. Blank Hospital will open, and the Egleston Hospital Emergency Department will close. Current clinical services at Egleston will move to Arthur M. Blank Hospital.
2) We’ll use 65 ambulances to move more than 300 patients to the new hospital—all in about 12 hours.
3) Please yield to ambulances near our hospitals on Move Day. They are transporting precious cargo.
4) As of 7 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, families should visit one of our three hospitals for emergency services: Arthur M. Blank Hospital, Hughes Spalding Hospital or Scottish Rite Hospital.
Since the $16.5 million expansion of Robina Emergency Department (ED) opened in March, more than 15,000 patients have been treated. 🚑✨
The expansion, which increased the total number of ED treatment spaces to 66, allows the department to manage up to 120 patients daily.
This boost has significantly improved patient flow, reduced wait times and supported the recruitment of about 126 full-time employees across the hospital. 🏥👩⚕️👨⚕️
Robina Emergency Department Doctor Sam Fitzpatrick said feedback on the new treatment spaces had been overwhelmingly positive from both patients and colleagues. 👨⚕️💬
“Previously, it could be challenging to manage 'ambulatory' patients – those who walk in rather than arriving by ambulance,” Dr Fitzpatrick explained. 🚶♂️🚶♀️
“Now, with more available spaces, we can better meet their needs.
"The expanded area not only provides our doctors with more room and readily accessible equipment, but it also offers a more comfortable and less hectic environment for our patients compared to the typical ED setting.” 🏥💺
The Robina Ambulatory Zone (RAZ) is dedicated to managing less acute injuries and illnesses, ensuring the hospital can effectively serve the region's rapidly growing population.

Excited to work on a capacity pilot project with 100 of California's acute care hospitals. They join the great states of #Oregon, #Hawaii, #Maryland, and #Delaware.
He Nailed IT. ED Volumes and Boarding are all highly predictable. Building larger EDs, Ambulance diversion, building urgent care nearby all do not work. Everything needs to focus on output NOT inputs and throughputs.

As a hospital emergency doctor, Touchstone CEO Merran Cooper spent hours chasing advance care plans for her patients, and was repeatedly provided with documents that contained errors such as boxes ticked for CPR and no CPR.
That's because advance care plans – despite being vital documents that clinical teams often need to access urgently – are usually created and stored as paper forms and PDFs. It is a problem that can lead to illegible, conflicting or outdated directives lacking validity, shareability and any means of verification.
And as they are not included in hospital transfer summaries, healthcare providers and ambulance services are often left without the meaningful and critical information they needed.
Advance care plans are also often shared by fax, including between residential aged care facilities, GPs and hospitals, which introduces risk and privacy implications.
That's why Merran created Touchstone Life Care – to provide a digital advance care planning solution that is safe, secure and shareable. It is the kinder option, too, for patients, loved ones and clinical staff.
Digital advance care plans significantly improve the quality of care for older Australians, particularly during critical transitions and traumatic times.
And they eliminate the need to rely on paper and PDFs.
