I can’t even begin to tell you how amazing Female Founders Rise is…. When I decided I might need to raise finance for my new tech business, I really had no idea where to start. I certainly had no relevant network and I had no concept how tough and lonely it would be at times 😔 Fast forward 18 month and I couldn’t be happier that I found Emmie Faust and her community FFR. I can’t even remember where I first met Emmie, but I saw a post of hers on LinkedIn and it just resonated at a really tough point in my journey, I immediately reached out, joined FFR and have never looked back 👀 It’s been the one single factor that I can say hands down, was the reasons I was successful in my fund raise. 👯♀️The network 🧠The knowledge 🫶🏻The support 💕The help & advice from Emmie and members of FFR - it’s been an incredible journey! And I’ve been trying really, REALLY hard for a while to bring this support network to the North East - because we’ve some of the best females I know up here, doing AMAZING things, but I still think we lack the support, education and community around raising finance - especially as females. Last year we launched the first ever FFR event in Newcastle (which was incredible) and next month we’re back!!! On Thursday 6th of June we’ll have both Emmie (founder of FFR) and Debbie Clarke 🌟 aka debbiedooodah (founding member) travelling up North to bring us the best Female founders event. We’ll hear from females who have scaled their business and raised money along the way. We’ll hear from Angel investors about why they invest and what it’s like to invest in a female led business. And we’ll hear from loads of NE supporters who will give you all the info you need to decide if raising financial is right for you, and if so, how you go about it. Plus I’ll be running a little session on the entire process I used to complete my raise and what I’ve learned along the way. You don’t have to be raising finance for this to be relevant, the community is open to all female businesses looking to grow. Come for the full session, just the panel or just the networking, it’s up to you. But if you’re a female running a business, I can’t recommend this event and community enough 🥰 come along and find out for yourself. Thursday 6th June 4pm - drinks and intros 4.30pm - workshop on how I raised 5.15pm - networking and intros 6pm - panel session 6.30pm - drinks and wrap up 7pm - close We’ve already sold half of the tickets available so if you’re thinking of coming along get booked here 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/ehSndiYP ✨Anny Lian✨ Dip PFS Hekla Goodman Parker Rojin Yarahmadi Helen Whitfield Zara Lane Amy Mooney Dr Natalia Blagburn Rebecca MacDermid Naomi Allen Seales Naomi McDiarmid Elaine Stroud Kari Owers Jo York - please spread the word.

🤝 If I have learned anything on this founder journey is that there is nothing more powerful than COMMUNITY 🤓 One of the best things I have done for myself and for my business is sign up to the Hive Founders Investment Readiness Accelerator back in March, not only for the 8-week intensive hand-holding and mentorship to get your pitch deck and your business model in tip top shape (forever grateful to my wonderful mentor Caroline Hughes and to Andrea Sommer for her guidance and support!), but for the genuine encouragement, motivation and community that you get to be a part of. 🚀 The Hive Founders community is a group of some of the most wonderful female founders, mentors, angels, and experts I have ever met and they continue to be a source of inspiration and advice, all willing to give their time and effort to help you succeed. 💰 Fundraising is hard (to put it lightly!). Even harder for female founders (won't get into the stats we all know). Don't do it alone! 🙅♀️ Female founders, if you are planning on kickstarting your fundraise, or are already in the midst of it and need support, do it right and sign up to Cohort 10 of the Investment Readiness Accelerator which starts in January 2025! Learn more and schedule a call with the Hive Founders team here: 📅 https://lnkd.in/ehJwBWNA #hiveinvestmentreadiness #femalefounders #fundraising

At the New Power Labs Unlocking Capital Summit today it was a pleasure to see so many different stakeholders share stories, lessons and innovative solutions towards equitable access and deployment of capital to undeserved and underrepresented communities. At the Mariam Assefa Fund, we are also committed to shifting power back to newcomers and refugees. Seeing so many familiar faces of co-funders and partners was a privilege. But, without a doubt, one of the most fulfilling moments was getting to hear and meet with the keynote speaker Arian Simone the Founder and CEO of the Fearless Fund, an venture capitalist firm that made headlines in 2023 when they faced a lawsuit for opening up a specific funding stream that was aimed at Black women entrepreneurs which instead ended up facing unprecedented challenges when they were taken to court for being "discriminatory". As we head into what is undoubtedly difficult times, the story of the Fearless Fund is not just a cautionary tale. I argue it is one of resilience, determination, and fierce strength in the face of growing anti-EDI movements. Now more than ever, I hope like-minded funders, impact investors and equity focused VCs will continue seeing the value in not just investing but believing in racialized and newcomer communities.

What valuations are typical for pre-seed and seed-stage fundraising rounds? It depends on who you are raising from, whether you are a first-time founder, and what industry your startup is in. Check out my latest video to learn more!

Cool news from Female Founders Fund! 💃 In 2014, investing in women’s health was anything but mainstream. Yet Female Founders Fund saw the potential in Maven, a women’s and family health startup, and took a chance. Today, Maven has raised $125 million at a $1.7 billion valuation, marking a key milestone not only for Maven but also for Female Founders Fund, which has now fully returned its first fund—a rare feat for any young VC firm. This success strengthens FFF’s mission of backing female founders and challenges the notion that investing in women is niche. As FFF founding partner Anu Duggal says, “We’re betting on a thesis that is proving out.” FFF’s commitment to underrepresented founders is delivering returns and reshaping the venture landscape. We just canceled several dozen VC meetings, many of them with firms that most founders bend over backwards and do cartwheels for. The best companies don’t actually need to be heavily subsidized by VCs; they are able to make money. Zapier only raised 1.3M during YC and they are worth 5B if not several multiples of that today. Oracle and Microsoft only raised one round of VC each and grew profitably. Meanwhile there’s a long list of companies like Theranos, WeWork, FTX, Katerra that raised a ton of VC money. It is because we are more ambitious, not less. We know from experience, don’t put your faith in VCs, put your faith in Jesus. VCs love to promise the sun and the moon but when it comes time to deliver they are nowhere to be found. Jesus, on the other hand, can do the impossible. And yes, we still want to dethrone Autodesk. We are going to do that by getting customers and taking really good care of them and actually solving their problems, without needing to do gymnastics for VC firms or answer dumb theory vs practice questions (sometimes you wonder how do they even get these jobs?). Curious about this Jesus guy? Our Christian (or curious) founders event has over 50 sign ups now (and it’s free and there will be catering). Come learn about He who is more powerful than all the VCs in the world and all of Autodesk's bean counters combined :)
