Having conversations with our patients and their families about end-of-life care, DNR status, or advance directives can be difficult but essential. These discussions, held before it’s too late, give patients a voice in their own care and can prevent them from enduring unnecessary suffering. As healthcare providers, we have a responsibility to not only save lives but to honor the wishes of those we care for. Without these critical conversations, patients may undergo aggressive interventions that may ultimately be futile, causing unnecessary pain and anguish for both them and their loved ones. Taking the time to understand and document these wishes ensures that care is aligned with the patient’s values, granting them dignity and peace in their most vulnerable moments. Let’s make it a priority to initiate these discussions and empower our patients to guide their care. #AdvanceDirectives #DNR #PatientCare #CompassionInCare #EndOfLifePlanning #HealthcareLeadership
