They give and receive appreciation more frequently 5. They’re more authentic BUT—if the team is diverse, they will need to apply cultural intelligence to gain the most from these strategies.

Summary. New research suggests that the highest-performing teams have found subtle ways of leveraging social connections during the pandemic to fuel their success. The findings offer important clues on ways any organization can foster greater connectedness — even within a remote or hybrid work setting — to engineer higher-performing teams. Doing so takes more than simply hiring the right people and arming them with the right tools to do their work. It requires creating opportunities for genuine, authentic relationships to develop. The authors present five key characteristics of high-performing teams, all of which highlight the vital role of close connection among colleagues as a driver of team performance. https://lnkd.in/e4m8muve

While there are many drivers that make teams effective, research at McKinsey & Company share four that are most critical (not surprising). "Teams that had above-average scores in these four areas were more likely to be efficient and innovative and to produce better results with stakeholders and customers: * Trust * Communication * Innovative Thinking, and * Decision Making" "Team health drivers are grouped into four core areas: 1 - configuration (the team has clear roles and a mix of perspectives); 2- alignment (team members are clear on the team’s direction and are committed to it); 3- execution (how well the team carries out its work); and 4- renewal (the team’s working environment is set up for long-term sustainability). All four of these categories provide a well-rounded view of the team and reflect on whether team members work effectively together—not just in the near term but over the long haul. Thanks to authors Aaron De Smet, Gemma D'Auria, Liesje Meijknecht and Matiham Albaharna for this research. #team #teamsuccess #teamdynamics #trust #innovation #alignment #communication #decisionmaking #teamleadership https://lnkd.in/grK3CAvA

If I see a reference to "high-performing teams," you bet I'm going to click the link to read it. :) This article came out when the world was still figuring out new ways of working and living in a pandemic world. And in the research, it boiled down that 3 psychological needs in a workplace are essential (autonomy, competence, relatedness). Individual attributes, competencies, results-achievement aside for the moment, further research honed in on how to cultivate that third area of "relatedness," one that can elevate the true connection of a team. To sum up the article, high-performing teams: 1) are not afraid to pick up the phone 2) are more strategic with their meetings 3) invest time bonding over non-work topics 4) give and receive appreciation more frequently 5) are more authentic at work I believe there to be a lot of subtopics that could go into the above areas, but ultimately, the goal being to achieve a trusting and psychologically safe environment where people can do their best work. A word kept popping up for me as I read through this: chemistry. When trust, performance, accountability to and support of one another has laid the foundation, some of the best teams I was a part of had a palpable energy fueling us. The secret sauce. 😎 What would you add/change/remove from this list based on high-performing teams you have been a part of or witnessed in action? NorthStar-Aligned Consulting
