The Moyes team attended the GESGB (Geoscience Energy Society of Great Britain) Diamond Jubilee evening at the London Geological Society last night. Fantastic turnout showing the society is alive and kicking. President Ian Sayers opened the evening. Incoming President Steve Laux was also in attendance. Many thanks to Westwood Global Energy Group for sponsorship of the evening. Festivities continued on to the Cheques public house, conveniently located below the Moyes office.

🇩🇲Happy Independence Day, Dominica! As we commemorate 46 years since Dominica's independence, we honour the "Nature Isle of the Caribbean" that has woven its rich cultural heritage with groundbreaking environmental initiatives. 🐋From establishing the world's first sperm whale reserve in 2020 to protect these majestic creatures across 300+ square miles of ocean, to setting an ambitious goal of becoming the world's first climate-resilient nation by 2030, Dominica exemplifies how a nation can honour its past while safeguarding its future. Through investments in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and well planned and durable infrastructure, Dominica proves that small nations can make a monumental impact. We applaud their holistic approach to national growth and global preservation. It is a true testament to their dedication of building back better for future generations. #buildingresilience #securingourfuture #caricomclimate #caribbeanclimate

Today, we celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day, honoring the First Nations, Metis, and Inuit, who contribute significantly to the cultural and social fabric of the country widely known as Canada, located on what some First Nations call Turtle Island.🐢🍁 These Indigenous communities have a long and rich history of resilience, vibrant cultures, and profound wisdom. Despite multiple challenges, they have maintained their unique cultural practices, languages, and traditions for centuries. Their traditional knowledge systems, tested and refined over time, inspire wisdom on sustainable living and community well-being – crucial insights in today's ever-evolving world. 🌍 As we honor their legacy, we must move beyond recognition and take meaningful actions. ✊🏽 Support First Nations and Indigenous communities worldwide and actively foster reconciliation and justice by advocating for their rights and sovereignty. Together, we can build a future that honors and conserves the biocultural diversity they have nurtured for generations. #IndigenousHistoryMonth #FirstNations #Metis #Inuit #NationaIndigenousPeoplesDay #BioculturalDiversity

Good fire!! Fire plays an important role in rangeland productivity. Absence of fire for years often leads to rangeland degradation as bushes take over grazing land, invasive species out-compete local species, and seed dormancy remains unbroken. Controlled fire restores rangeland balance. #SustainableLandManagement #RangelandRestoration #FireEcology #EcosystemBalance #EnvironmentalSustainability
This NAIDOC week as we continue yarning about keeping the fire burning we wish to celebrate Indigenous rangers far and wide across this beautiful continent who are working hard to carry on the flames of our old people looking after country. Australia is a better place with Indigenous rangers leading the way in caring for country and sharing knowledge passed down through the generations. Thank you rangers and big respect to you all! NAIDOC week is a celebration of our pride, traditions and connections passed down through the generations despite the challenges we face. Get down to the NAIDOC local events around your place, listen, learn and take in the beautiful and powerful music, dancing, speeches, food and cultural teachings and mob that will be proudly on display especially this time of the year!

"I got to visit neighbourhoods outside of the central city district where the majority of the people of African descent live. I learnt about the history of these neighbourhoods, their ongoign transformation and how they speak to enduring shared history and heritage between African and Portugal. We went to see the ‘Monument to the African Worker’ that commemorates the contribution of African workers to rebuilding Portugal. This tour-interview conversation added another dimension to the fieldwork experience thus far. ... One of the things that stood out to me in relation to the tour-interview was the discussion around the “discoveries” which Djuzé prefers to call the “arrival”. What happens when we think of the period of Portuguese exploration as the “arrival”? I think it could potentially open up both conceptual and empirical thinking space in reimagining past, present and future entangled heritage. The arrival can then signal the beginning of the end – end of failing to account for the African presence, the end of continued imperialist attitudes and actions, the end of oppression of all forms, the end of war and aggression….and the beginning of love, oneness and a shared sense of our common entwined humanity and unfolding human history. I guess a man is allowed to dream and work towards hope…." https://lnkd.in/eRmbX2pi #fieldwork #lisbon #tourism #heritage #memory #embodiedabsence #venidiaries #PTfieldwork

The morning of Day One and we’ve already learned so much - especially from Aunty Norma Ingram as our Welcomer to Country - specifically to the land of the Bidigal people of the Eora Nation. Aunty Norma reminded us that for Aboriginal people - just as for PIANC people, water is of crucial cultural importance as is connection! They have cared for this country for 65,000 years - successfully! Yama is the word she gave us to use today - as a greeting, an acknowledgement of another’s deep presence, and an enquiry into their wellbeing. So Yama to all attendees at our booked out PIANC Sydney Conference today and our colleagues back in the office or on site! #PIANC #WATERBORNETRANSPORTINFRASTRUCTURE #alwayswasalwayswillbe
