In a packed room at the #QuirksEvent in Dallas yesterday, our very own Jonathan Dore joined John Deere's Bryan Dorsey to share how this revered brand is reimagining its approach to insight communities. Missed the session? Here are 3 key takeaways: 1. Evolve with and for your customers. According to Bryan, John Deere's business and customers are changing. To continue to remain close to their customers, they need to evolve their approach to gathering insights as well. 2. To get high-quality data from your community, deliver meaningful engagement. In one research-on-research study, 90% of members indicated they enjoy the experience in John Deere's new communities compared to the old way. In addition, an astounding 99% said they would participate again! 3. To see ROI faster, prioritize deeper insights and elevated storytelling. Since working with Reach3 Insights and using the Rival Technologies platform, John Deere's communities have been delivering more robust quant, rich qual, and video feedback. It's hard to let go. You invest your time into something and it doesn't become what you thought it would. That's a hard pillow to swallow in any case. When it comes to inventory it happens more times than you may think. Holding on to inventory that didn't sell as expected or just go the way your organization planned is a common problem. I've worked for organizations holding on to inventory with a layer of dust on top thinking that something will happen and it will become usable. Even with no movement in multiple years. Was money invested in the inventory? Yes, and that's part of the problem. Do we really want to admit the loss? However, as that inventory sits, the loss continues to grow. It's not "free" to have inventory just sit in a warehouse somewhere. Here is where you are losing: 1. You're paying for that space 2. You're paying for the labor to maintain the inventory (cycle counting, movement of product if needed, still showing up in your data) 3. It's taking up space where good inventory could be So if you have dead or excess inventory, is it really going to come back around again or are you just having trouble letting go? Turns out everyone's actually buzzing about how to spot trends in their business and leverage data before things hits them in the face. As one owner put it -- think about how much data you have to put together your fantasy football roster. Why don't you have data like that to make smarter decisions in your own company? Are you throwing all your manpower on an account that's big but unprofitable? Are you making too many assumptions when you bid and you are setup to disappoint your customer or not make money?
