Ethiopian Airlines continues to make Africa proud with the arrival of its first Airbus A350-1000, marking a major milestone in the airline's history. 𝐄𝐓𝐇𝐈𝐎𝐏𝐈𝐀𝐍 𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐄 𝐀𝐈𝐑𝐁𝐔𝐒 𝐀350-1000 𝐃𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐘 𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏: It is November 5, 2024, Bole International Airport in Addis Ababa and it marks a historic day for Ethiopian Airlines because it takes delivery of a brand-new Airbus A350-1000 aircraft, registered as 'ET-BAW'. Landing after a six and a half flight from Tolouse-France, it is the first of its kind to be operated by an African carrier. This aircraft joins Ethiopian's fleet as part of its Vision 2035 growth strategy , which involves significantly growing its fleet, number of destinations, passengers carried, and annual revenue. For Ethiopian Airline the aircraft will be utilised for promotional flights until the second aircraft is delivered, after which they will be deployed to Washington-Dulles and other key intercontinental destinations, according to Ethiopian Airlines CEO Ato Mesfin Tasew. For the whole African Aviation Market, this development shows how the market is evolving and changing positively. It reflects growth in comparison to the rest of the aviation industry worldwide. Another pair of Airbus #A380 superjumbos that had been in long-term storage in Spain since the pandemic has left that country as their respective airline owners look to press them back into regular commercial passenger service. The two aircraft involved, belonging to Abu Dhabi-based Etihad and Germany’s Lufthansa departed Teruel Airport (TEV) in Spain on September 13, 2024, where they have been stored since March 2020 and May 2020 respectively. Both aircraft are understood to be required by their airlines due to the upsurge in travel demand plus the opening of new routes planned to commence in 2025. Aircalin announces order for two Airbus A350-900 aircraft for long-haul routes Currently the airline’s widebody fleet comprises two A330-900neo aircraft. The carrier operates scheduled services to destinations throughout Oceania and Asia including Bangkok, Singapore, Brisbane, Sydney as well as serving the French capital, Paris via Bangkok. Additionally, the carrier employs a pair of A320neo on regional services as well as providing inter-island flights to neighboring islands such as New Zealand, Fiji, and Tahiti. The airline is 99% owned by the Government of New Caledonia, with the remaining 1% held by minority owners, including the airline’s employees.
