The foundation of the MRIGlobal rebranding initiative was centered on reaffirming our mission, vision, and values. To ensure that our values truly reflected the beliefs and priorities of our employees, we conducted a companywide survey to gather input from all team members. This feedback was instrumental in shaping the new values, which were launched as a core element of our refreshed brand identity and are a direct reflection of our culture. With the launch of these values, we introduced a peer recognition program, allowing employees to gift one another lapel pins that represent each of our five values. When a colleague demonstrates one of our core values, team members can offer a pin as a way to acknowledge and celebrate value-driven actions.

Today could be a good day to look around at the industry leaders you follow and admire, and reflect on the lived experiences they collectively represent. Actively seeking out voices from different contexts provides a much richer (and realistic) picture of our industry and the different ways we can choose to interact with it, and reveals the barriers that might have been invisible to you without that context.

It was great to chat on the interconnection of economic statecraft and 🛢️ energy 🛢️ with Richard Bonugli, Yra Harris, and Art Berman. If you are in markets I really recommend taking a good hard listen to some of the good hard arguments that were made! It's a great illustration of "Fixed Mindset" vs "Growth Mindset" Individuals with a fixed mindset believe their talents and intelligence are fixed traits. They often think, "This is just who I am, I can't change that," which might deter them from trying new things or taking on challenges where they might fail. This mindset limits personal growth by maintaining the status quo and avoiding potential failures. Those who adopt a growth mindset believe that they can develop their abilities through dedication and hard work. This belief leads them to embrace challenges, persevere through difficulties, learn from criticism, and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others. With a mantra like, "I can always improve," they push their boundaries and expand their capabilities.

Ilya Prigogine famously said: “When a complex system is far from equilibrium, small islands of coherence in a sea of chaos have the capacity to shift the entire system to a higher order.” Over the past few years I have met people across many disciplines who work with grace, courage and determination to bring life back into the part of the wounded culture that they are in contact with. Many get wounded along the way and keep going. Many have to navigate carefully from the edges of the mainstream, working on the margins, trying to find the cracks. When we find each other and co-create 'small islands of coherence', a form of collective intelligence starts to flow. Once we tap into this, we start to see with different eyes and may see things that reveal the next steps. I have seen time and time again that ideas start to emerge that we’d never have reached on our own. This is why the climate journalist Matthew Green and I invite a small group of professionals to join us at the Conduit in London on 7th December. We are not encouraging people to leave their jobs or to glue themselves to the boardroom table. We just want to create a space where people can speak about the conflicting realities and dilemmas in their lives in the company of a small group of others who experience similar pressures between career progression, the need to earn money, the care for people and planet and personal values. No judgement, no advice. Just a carefully facilitated space to acknowledge the dilemmas that many of us are facing. Of course what is discussed is strictly confidential, but no sensitive disclosures are necessary. It is the principle of fragmentation and cognitive dissonance that is shared ground for all of us. here more information for the in person event on 7th December at the Conduit in London: https://lnkd.in/dvjBkAmM For an online version in January: https://lnkd.in/edPgBimC If a group is not your thing and a private conversation feels more helpful, feel free to reach out.

As we strive to create opportunities for robust deliberation on difficult topics, it is important to keep in mind the pitfalls associated with this work. Building on insights from Friedrich Nietzsche, DCI Fellow Shahin Ahmadi ’24 explores several of these challenges, including competing “wills to power” and “herd morality,” and discusses how we must adopt a mindset of continuous improvement to effectively respond to them.
