Bhil People, Culture, and Phenomena, essential component of Indigenous or Adivasi India. Etymologically, the Bhil has been derived from the Dravidian word bil or vil, meaning a bow. The Bhils are inhabitants of the Dhar, Jhabua, Khargone, and Ratlam districts of Madhya Pradesh. A large number of Bhils live in the neighboring States of Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. They constitute the third largest tribe in India; the first two being Gonds and Santhal.
