I often talk about the idea that some crisis communications management situations are planned for but never seen. I recently managed a crisis in which you literally could not see. For one of my client's, the power was out when people arrived on site. It affected several thousand stakeholders. We quickly drafted messages in the event that the power came back quickly, or in case it didn't come back at all that day. The power came back on about 30 minutes after we sent the initial message. But we were prepared with alternative messages if it didn't. Preparing for a number of different scenarios is a hallmark of crisis communications. My job as a crisis communications consultant is to anticipate what might happen even if you can't see it or never see it, literally and figuratively. What's lighting you up today? 💡 #crisiscommunications #crisismanagement #publicrelations

As we’re approaching the end of another year (and getting used to the time change 😳), our team is reflecting on the work we do. Over the next couple weeks, we’re going to re-introduce our team members and share what gets them up in the morning. #CoastCommsTeam This week, we’re starting with Liam Sasky! He has extensive experience in stakeholder relations and politics, giving him a sharp eye when it comes to public affairs work. What gets him excited about work? Crisis situations. “I enjoy the intensity and pressure they bring—it’s when I get to work closest with clients, helping them stay grounded and see things objectively during a time of high stress for them. My focus is always on creating a strategic path forward, setting them up for long-term success. You know the saying, 'Teach a person to fish and they’ll eat for a lifetime’? Well, teach crisis communications best practices and they’ll be prepared for the next media storm!” If you need help with issues management or crisis communications planning, Coast Comms is here to help! Internal Communications should never be an afterthought in a crisis. And from an IC perspective, we need to think bigger than regular updates and news on the intranet when it comes to managing a crisis effectively. https://lnkd.in/eUAut56b
With a new Crisis Communications framework published by the UK Government Communications Service, we look at ways internal communications can support communications during a crisis. #internalcommunications #ic #crisiscomms #employee #engagement https://lnkd.in/e6HiEaVG

The idea of a communications crisis can be scary. If your organisation finds itself at the centre of one, it can be relentless. 24/7 scrutiny from the media, understandable questions from angry stakeholders and the need to address whatever issue got you there. If you are at the storm's centre without a plan, it can be lonely and challenging to get out of. This doesn't mean that you need to rush out now and spend lots of money on a crisis comms consultant. As someone who does this work, even I will tell you it's not a good investment for all organisations. I have created a guide to help understand the likelihood of finding yourself in a high scrutiny situation and how ready you might be. Take a look and let me know what you think! https://lnkd.in/gYpXU-8f I'm always happy to chat if you're not sure whether or not crisis comms support might be helpful for your organisation. #crisiscommunication #mediarelations #PRcrisis #PRstrategy #PublicRelations

Attention all #PR and #Comms pros! My dear friend, mentor, and former boss Joseph Diorio has a new book coming out in January that is a must read. “Crisis Communications and the Art of Making Nothing Happen" is a great primer for anyone who needs advice on developing a no-nonsense crisis communications strategy. Joe is the master at creatively keeping a reader’s attention, and masterfully does this by splitting the book into two parts. Part 1: A gripping account of a workplace incident and its immediate aftermath. Part 2: An in-depth exploration of crisis communication planning and execution. You can pre-order the book now. #CrisisCommunications #BusinessPreparedness #LeadershipSkills

For one of the biggest brands - there is still a ways to go to protect one of their best and brightest assets. My thoughts on the next steps for crisis communications via Mumbrella - it’s been a big week for the team there, so I appreciate my spot on the site. Any brand or reputation can learn lessons from this play book. Catherine’s video was a masterclass in crisis statements, but the beast is hungry and will need to be fed. The key take away - crisis is hard work but can be done well when we realise what works in BAU, won’t work in a crisis. https://lnkd.in/g-tc8TpZ #crisispr #crisiscommunications
