Do this right away if you are planning to work in Dubai.. I've been in Dubai for long now, and one thing I've been planning to do is get my driving license. But guess what? It's not as easy as it sounds when you're from a country that drives on the opposite side of the road! 😅 In Dubai, they drive on the left-hand side, while in my home country, we drive on the right-hand side. This means I can't just use my old license here – I have to go through a whole process to get a new one. That process includes: Learning the rules in a theory class. Practicing how to drive on the road. Learning how to park correctly. It sounds easy, right? But Hardest part is finding the time to do all of this when you're busy working. Sometimes, my clients even pick me up for work which feels strange. i know it’s not ideal, but until I get my license, that’s how I manage! So, here's my advice! if you're moving to Dubai, apply for your driver's license as soon as you get your Emirates ID! Trust me it will save you so much time and hassle later. 🚗💨 PS. HIDDEN COSTS WHEN RELOCATING TO DUBAI 🇦🇪 🎯 DRIVING LICENSE CONVERSION There is a fee for converting your driving license to a UAE driving license which is roughly 1000 aed. You are eligible to drive on your UK license as long as you are under a tourist visa, once you are under a residence visa then you must convert your license. 🎯CHEQUES It’s very common in the UAE for tenants to pay for their rental properties in cheques. Most landlords accept 1, 2 or 4 cheques per year. So this should be factored in when you are moving into a property as you’ll need to pay X amount of months rent upfront. 🎯 UTILITY DEPOSITS This one catches me every single time I move if I’m honest, there are deposits such as DEWA and Emirates Gas which require you to pay a deposit and set up fee when you move into a new property. Always check with your agent or landlord what the average price for this is so you know what to expect.
