Tutoring doesn’t just improve attainment, it’s proven to improve attendance, school engagement, self-efficacy and more. 📈 (Read the most recent research into school-based tutoring we worked with ImpactEd Group on that’ll I’ve linked in the comments below👇). 💸 In my opinion, tutoring is one of the most cost-effective interventions out there, particularly when considering what some of the biggest issues in education are right now (attendance, the attainment gap, post-school progression, inclusion) and how tutoring can address many of them. If government funding is missing, what else do you think could be done to ensure schools can continue to implement tutoring? 💭 Let me know in the comments! 💬 #tutoring #intervention #covid #education #attainmentgap #attendance #inclusion
We know that English and maths GCSEs are vital for success in life, and also that tutoring is the best evidenced intervention for catching up on lost learning. This is why it makes no sense that the government has scrapped the National Tutoring Programme. Read more about the benefits of tutoring here: https://lnkd.in/eiwWcewf

This afternoon, I presented to one of our corporate partners, and there was one statistic that shocked them... I wasn't surprised, because it shocked me too. I can feel the pang each time I share the depressing numbers. 😣 The statistic? “72% of disadvantaged students who do not pass their SATs exams in primary school, will 𝗡𝗢𝗧 pass their GCSEs in English or maths” ..... Every time I run through this slide, I have to take a pause. It reaffirms why our work is so important, so that we can change this statistic and end the cycle of disadvantage ➰ But to do this, we need more schools on board for next academic year, to help us deliver our life changing tutoring programmes that are completely free for our pupils. >> Do you work for a school, or know a school near you that could benefit? >> Perhaps you have a family member, or friends who are teachers? If you do, please help us spread the word!! 📢 You can put them in touch with me directly, or send them a link to the Action Tutoring schools page here ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eKrZdE46 It is not impossible to change this statistic, but we have to act now, so that the next generation are not left behind! #EducationInequality #SchoolPartnerships #ActionTutoring

Lee Elliot-Major OBE is right to highlight in this piece that without basic grades in both English and maths, the odds of success are stacked against you. These qualifications are so crucial that young people missing them need to retain the chance to continue to study English and maths post-16. At Get Further, we’ve spent the last six years examining this issue deeply and identifying ways in which more young people can be supported to raise their attainment in post-16 education. It’s vital to remember that it’s never too late: these children are far more capable than many believe. #educationpolicy #gcseresits #furthereducation #socialmobility

We have known for a long time that struggling in basic skills is not good for your life chances. https://lnkd.in/dpT8cQv But honestly that bottom 20% will have been known by all their teachers by the first year that they entered each of their schools. But we as a society have done little to change matters, just more of the same. Lee Elliot-Major OBE Bridget Phillipson Becky Francis The Education profession are peculiarly resistant to understanding how humans actually need to be supported in order to become efficient learners. The documentary H is for Harry is an excellent example of the folly of going on doing more of the same: https://lnkd.in/d5mzvMYC Department for Education Chartered College of Teaching Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) Last night I sat explaining to my son's girlfriend the emotional damage that his primary school years had had on him. We went on to discuss whether we would send any future children to school or home educate them. The conclusion was broadly that there would be no formal education before 7 years old and even then we would need to check developmental readiness. Also, that the education would have to be active, not just didactic teaching. The way we fail the bottom 20% of students is over a decade of institutional abuse for each of them; it is bad. But they are the tip of the iceberg our education system maximises very few children's skills. Let's make ALL of our children fit to learn and stop blocking that process with educational and political dogma. www.fit-2-learn.com #motorsensoryintegration #cognition #mentalhealth #childdevelopment #skillsforlife #motorskills #soundprocessing #visualprocessing https://lnkd.in/dWeZSbAC

When 85% of the students unable to pass a given test are disabled or ELLs, you should really stop to question what the test is actually measuring. Assessment is one of our most important tools as educators, but the data we collect means nothing unless the tests we choose actually align to the metrics we mean to observe. If you’re voting in MA tomorrow, before you pat yourself on the back for “keeping up standards,” consider what standard it is you’re truly upholding by denying diplmomas to a few hundred disabled and ELL youth. Ableism and xenophobia are certainly standards, but not ones that belong in a state that values education as highly as MA proclaims.
