📣Last week, MSI team members from our international teams hosted a United Nations General Assembly and Summit of the Future event with the Government of Canada, the Government of Nepal, SheDecides, FP2030, and the Canadian Partnership for Women and Children's Health. We asked leaders to speak out about why they #ChooseChoice and share commitments they are making to sexual and reproductive health and rights globally. #UNGA

In Support for #Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in #Sub-Saharan Africa: A New Index Based on World Values Survey Data. Highlighting the fact that addressing attitudes is essential to achieving sexual and reproductive health and rights (#SRHR) in accordance with the 2030 Agenda, the paper's goal was to create a comprehensive index that would measure an individual's support for SRHR. This would increase opportunities for global trend analyses and customized interventions! Women for Women International

Today, on #WorldContraceptionDay, we had the privilege of strengthening our partnership with UNFPA Asia and the Pacific. Tomoko Fukuda, Regional Director, #IPPF ESEAOR and our team paid a courtesy visit to Pio Smith, Regional Director of UNFPA Asia & the Pacific, in #Bangkok, Thailand. Discussions focused on advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice (#SRHRJ), tackling opposition and anti-choice movements, fertility, ageing, adolescent and youth health. As we reflect on this year’s theme, “A choice for all. Freedom to plan, power to choose,” it’s clear there is still much to be done. While many countries have increased spending on contraceptives, the global funding gap continues to grow—projected to reach at least $1.5 billion in low- and middle-income countries by 2030. Despite these challenges, our commitment to SRHRJ remains stronger than ever. #SRHR4ALL [From left to right: Anthony Daly, Technical Adviser on Family Planning, UNFPA Asia & the Pacific Pio Smith, Regional Director, UNFPA Asia & the Pacific, Tomoko Fukuda, Regional Director, IPPF ESEAOR, Gessen Rocas, External Relations Director, IPPF ESEAOR, Harjyot Khosa, External Relations Director, IPPF South Asia Region]

Join us for an interesting conversation on #ICPD30
Join us for a dynamic discussion, “30 Years of the International Conference on Population and Development: Advancing Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in an Era of Challenging Political Contexts,” on Wednesday, April 17, at 9:00 am PDT/6:00 pm CET. The 1994 International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) set the standard for people-centered development, and now, 30 years later, still remains the global touchstone for reproductive rights. In this virtual event, an amazing group of panelists will reflect on the history and the future of health and development in the current political moment. The dialogue will be moderated by IIGH Director Sofia Gruskin and SRHM Board of Trustees Co-Chair Sapna Desai. The webinar is hosted by the USC Institute on Inequalities in Global Health and co-sponsored by Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters. RSVP here: tinyurl.com/iigh-icpd30

Australia is committed to the universal realisation of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Today, on International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women, we've launched the new $56.8 million Towards Universal Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in the Indo-Pacific program. The new program will support UNFPA, International Planned Parenthood Federation, Marie Stopes International and UNICEF to improve access to, and quality of, services for sexual and reproductive health and rights in Southeast Asia. It will also contribute towards eliminating violence against women and girls, including harmful practices like child, early and forced marriage. The new program complements the Transformative Agenda for Women, Youth and Adolescents in the Pacific Phase 2 program, which commenced in November 2023 and is delivering similar support and services across the Pacific. Our latest article is an important reminder of how anti-rights groups use backdoor advocacy to dominate policy and decision-making spaces, negatively influencing the access and provision of sexual and reproductive health and rights - recently observed in Kenya. Centering African voices and experiences in the global discourse on #SRHR can help challenge and transform dominant narratives in ways that are reflective of the complexity and diversity of Africa while providing a more nuanced understanding of the global #ReproductiveJustice landscape and how it feeds into the regional landscape, according to author Evelyne Opondo and her co-authors. Whether you can be there in-person or online, join us for a fascinating discussion about adolescent #SRHR. Registration is now open for the event: 'Adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights: advancing the agenda for a sustainable future,' 23 September, 8:00-10:00am ET. Today's 1.3 billion adolescents are not only the largest age group but also the most diverse the world has ever seen. They face considerable challenges to their sexual and reproductive health and rights and progress is never fast enough. As governments meet at the #SummitoftheFuture to strengthen global cooperation, this high-level event invites policy makers, researchers and practitioners into conversation with adolescents and youth to keep progress on adolescent sexual and reproductive health and rights high on the global agenda, as highlighted by the Agenda for Action for Adolescents launched during the Global Forum for Adolescents. At the event a special supplement of the Journal of Adolescent Health will be launched, showcasing latest evidence on health trends, gender transformative interventions, the role of laws and policies and advances in research methods. Outputs from this event will help operationalize and localize implementation of the Declaration on Future Generations, an annex to the Pact for the Future and its commitment to the inclusion of young people at all levels.
