These aren’t journalists—they’re glorified carnival barkers hawking outrage as entertainment. And now, even the crowd at the midway seems to have moved on, perhaps in search of something more compelling than the tired liturgy of tribal disdain. If they truly want to regain their footing, they might consider trading the echo chamber for a mirror, although I suspect that would require a level of introspection their ratings-obsessed producers simply can't afford.
