Synthetic turf is ubiquitous across so many sporting grounds, including #soccer pitches, #tennis courts, #hockey fields and #schoolsports facilities. Good quality turf should last over 10 years but eventually it does reach an end-of-use, potentially leaving hundreds of tonnes of bulky waste when it is replaced...   It was therefore truly ace to visit Australia's first #syntheticturf #recycling facility, RE4ORM, just outside of #Wodonga #VIC, and see how this pioneering company is transforming end-of-use turf into valuable resources.   With world-leading plant specifically designed to recover material like sand, rubber crumb, and polyethylene from turf, and a production capacity of over 7,000 tonnes annually, #RE4ORM is tackling a niche yet impactful industry with innovative technology.   The great news is that the recovered sand and rubber can be applied right back into new synthetic turf, providing a #circulareconomy outcome for key components.   Thanks so much to Trent Cummings, Fraser Gehrig, Myles Neville and Vicky Malliaros for the lesson on #syntheticturf #sustainability ! Speed is a well-documented risk factor in severe crashes involving bicyclists. The chance of a bicyclist fatality doubles at vehicle speeds of 30 miles per hour and continues to increase exponentially with higher speeds. But until now, agencies have been challenged by a lack of examples and guidance for how to safely provide bicycling facilities on high-speed roads—leading to either unsafe facilities or bicycling network gaps that, if filled safely, could connect bicyclists of varying abilities and confidence levels to key destinations, transit stations, and their communities as a whole. 🚩 With a goal to get more separated bicycling facilities on our roads, and specifically on higher-speed roads, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released "Separated Bike Lanes on Higher Speed Roadways: A Toolkit and Guide." 🚲 The guide provides best practices for the planning and design of bicycling facilities on roadways with a posted speed limit of 35 mph or higher. What a week…. Did a little ski and work combo. Couldn’t pass up knee to waist deep powder in #parkcity last weekend ….
