The Philippines is the global epicenter of a growing crime called online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC). From 2019 to 2020, the number of online tips of possible online child exploitation tripled. A recent report revealed that in 2022 alone, half a million children in the Philippines were sexually abused by traffickers to create new CSEM for sale to offenders around the world. But change is possible, and survivors are leading the way. Dressember supports survivor leader groups like the Philippine Survivor Network to ensure that lasting transformation is driven by those who know firsthand what it means to experience both vulnerability and protection. IJM Bangladesh has launched! Partnering with local authorities, IJM are supporting police to combat human trafficking in key locations across the country. In Bangladesh alone, the UNODC estimates that 600,000 women and girls are at risk of sexual exploitation. In phase 1 of the programme, IJM will work with local NGOs and CSOs to assess the current state of human trafficking and design an impactful programme to tackle trafficking in Bangladesh. Supporting Bangladeshi police, IJM's recent successful training sessions are helping the local force to investigate trafficking crimes, assist victims of human trafficking, identify human rights abuse, and track illegal money laundering practices, all with the aim of protecting Bangladeshi men, women and children from trafficking. #SouthAsia #Bangladesh

🌍¨In today's world, many children are being trafficked to different areas within and outside their countries and they end up being exploited, subjected to ´cheap´ labour and sexual exploitation.¨ This World Day against Trafficking in Persons 2024, themed ¨Leave no Child Behind in the Fight Against Human Trafficking¨ reminds all of us, as stakeholders, of our responsibility to protect all children from all forms of exploitation. Let us #StopChildExploitation#StopChildTrafficking!!¨- Daniel Munaaba, Programme Cordinator, Uganda, Terre des Hommes Netherlands. 🛡️ Together, we can protect our children from child trafficking and all forms exploitation. #EndTrafficking #LeaveNoChildBehind #WDATIP2024

1 in 3 victims of human trafficking globally is a child. Children represent a significant proportion of trafficking victims worldwide, with girls being disproportionately affected. According to the UNODC, they are twice as likely to face violence during trafficking than adults. Regions such as Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean bear a disproportionate burden, with children making up for 60 percent of detected trafficking victims. This year, our campaign for World Day Against Trafficking in Persons urges accelerated action to end child trafficking in all forms. #notinourgame #endexploitation #sportsequality #sdg #footballforgood #mission89

🚨 Raising Awareness on Reporting Gender-Based Violence (GBV) 🚨 With the support of Zamara Foundation, I worked on a project designed to improve access to information on how to report GBV cases. Key elements of the campaign included: -Infographics shared in schools and malls to provide clear reporting guidelines. -Stickers placed in tuk-tuks and matatus, ensuring commuters could access vital information during their daily travels. The aim was to make reporting channels visible and accessible, especially in spaces where people might not otherwise have access to such information. This project aims to contribute to larger systemic change by providing public access to information with the goal of increasing reporting for SGBV cases leading to improved access to justice for survivors and their families. Let’s keep exploring practical ways to bridge these gaps and create more informed communities. #GBVAwareness #CommunityEngagement #PublicInformation

Australia is the third largest sender of payments to the Philippines for online child sexual exploitation, with half a million Filipino children trafficked in 2022 to meet global demand. Child sexual abuse materials are being created, shared and stored on everyday social media, video chat and file storage services, and tech companies must do more to prevent this from occurring. We encourage you to review and sign the petition by International Justice Mission Australia calling on the Australian Government to require tech companies to prevent the online sexual exploitation of children on their platforms at ijm.org.au At A21 Australia we know we can’t end human trafficking alone. We champion every action taken towards ending modern slavery in all its forms.

The 16 Days of Activism highlights the severe GBV crisis in Africa’s conflict zones, where sexual violence, forced marriages, and trafficking are widespread. In 2023, over 60% of survivors in such settings were under 18, with impunity and weak protection measures worsening the issue. Concrete and urgent action should include prosecuting GBV as a war crime, strengthening community protection mechanisms, and funding survivor-centered services. Supporting women-led organizations and enforcing frameworks like the Maputo Protocol are critical.

Online sexual exploitation of children (OSEC) is on the rise. Online predators from all regions of the world pay to watch and direct the live, sexual abuse of children. While cases of OSEC have been reported everywhere, experts consider the Philippines to be the epicenter, where nearly half a million children were victims of OSEC in 2022. According to IJM’s groundbreaking Scale of Harm study, the average age of trafficked victims at the time of rescue is 11 years old; however, we have supported Philippine law enforcement in rescuing victims under the age of 1.* This summer, join IJM to fight for every child’s right to safety and freedom.
