Happy World Africa Day from all of us at College Guide Africa! As we join in on celebrating the establishment of the OAU (Organisation of African Unity), we are particularly excited about this year's theme, which stands for "Education Fit for the 21st Century." As the world is changing, the deliberate effort to change education as we once knew it for the future of our youth is just as important. We aim to give every young person, regardless of their age, gender, disability, or socioeconomic background a fair chance to get better access to education and career development opportunities, improve the employability skills of the youth workforce to promote productive employment and empower young people to become inspiring changemakers and leaders. Through the proper utilization of key 21st-century skills, we can all work together to accomplish this mission. "Quality Education is the key to the future and the key to a better Africa. When the continent is properly educated, change and development for the near future can come." - Oluwafeolami Awe-Joseph #Collegeguideafrica #Worldafricaday #YearofEducation #YouthEmpowerment #Qualityeducation #SDG4 #SDG8

📚International Day of Education | 24 January Education opens doors, it is a fundamental right. Yet in many cocoa-growing communities in West Africa, not all children have had the opportunity to attend school. Others may have had their education interrupted, leaving them at risk of being left behind. But change is possible. Bridging classes offer these children an opportunity to regain essential skills and re-enter formal education. In Côte d’Ivoire, bridging classes have: 🎒 Supported children’s right to quality education 🎒 Reduced child labour 🎒 Ensured a protective school environment 🎒 Increased local employment opportunities On this World Day for Education, let’s champion solutions that make education accessible for every child. Learn more about how bridging classes are making a difference in our Learning into Action brief. https://bit.ly/4d30NJ9 #EducationDay #BridgingClasses #ChildLabour #Cocoa

Africa Day (formerly African Freedom Day and African Liberation Day) is the annual commemoration of the foundation of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963 renamed the African Union in 2002 It is "supposedly" celebrated in various countries on the African continent. The African Union has marked 2024 as the year of Education. The day's overarching theme is to; “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa”. Whilst this sounds good to the ears, it is very poignant to know that a considerable number of African children barely have access to education. In Nigeria for example, there are over 13 million out of school children. Their right to education has been rendered non-existent. At BACRI, we hope to bridge this tortuous gap.

Based on my observations, children in Cameroon require access to #books during their #foundational #education. Additionally, there is a pressing need for them to explore their #heritage from an African perspective. We can no longer delay learning about our African history until college. It's crucial for the younger generation to recognize and embrace their #identity to thrive in this age of #globalization. I would like to take this opportunity to bring attention to a significant issue raised at the inaugural ceremony of K. F Kiddies Corner's flagship project 'A Reader, a Leader' that I organized two years ago: the need to inspire established authors on the continent to #write for #younger audiences while also encouraging #youthengagement in #writing. Two main challenges emerged: the issues of publishing and copyright. On one hand, #authors expressed concerns about the lack of African publishing houses on the continent, and the few that exist impose strict requirements, leading many to seek collaboration with foreign publishers that come with their own limitations. Conversely, publishers have their own considerations to address. They criticized African authors for being resistant to #feedback on their writings. Additionally, when authors collaborate simultaneously with foreign and local publishing houses, they often find themselves granting publishing rights to these external entities, which adds to the ongoing debates surrounding #copyrights. While significant efforts are being made both collectively and individually to address #education across the continent, the reality is that a mind that has not been trained to consistently receive information will struggle to effectively access and utilize that information in a timely manner. It's essential to return to the basics: #reading. #theafricawewant
Education remains a top development priority for Africa and the African Union Year of Education underlines the central role education plays in unleashing the continent's economic potential. On the sidelines of #UNGA79, GPE, the African Union and Human Capital Africa brought together African leaders and key development partners to discuss what it needed for transformational change in education that will allow every child to learn and thrive. #FundEducation #SummitOfTheFuture

TO ADDRESS THE EDUCATION CHALLENGES IN AFRICA, LET US PUT EMPHASIS ON 1. Policy and Governance: Governments should ensure better coordination between education policy, planning, and implementation. Prudent mechanisms must be established for accountability, transparency, and community involvement in the management of schools. African education systems should prepare students to be globally competitive while maintaining local and cultural relevance. International partnerships and exchanges should play their role in enhancing the quality of African education. These solutions are essential for understanding and transforming African education systems to meet future challenge. June 16 Today we honor the memory of those who fought for the rights of African children and to advocate for better education opportunities for all. The Day of the African Child has its roots in the Soweto Uprising that took place on June 16, 1976, in South Africa. The Soweto Uprising became a turning point in the fight against apartheid and brought significant attention to the struggles faced by African children in accessing quality education as well as the need to address systemic inequalities in the education system. Today's theme, “Education for all Children in Africa: The Time is Now,” echoes the urgency to ensure every child has access to learning opportunities. As we strive to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4) - quality education for all, let's honor the past, advocate for the present, and pave the way for a brighter educational future across the continent. Let’s ensure children have access to their right to education and support them with any means. #becoming
