Dubai Municipality has launched a sustainable waste management project in Hatta to divert waste from landfills. The project, titled 'Outsourcing Waste Collection, Transportation, and Recycling Services', has transformed the Hatta landfill into an advanced facility spanning more than 60,000 square metres. The facility comprises an administrative office and a waste disposal zone. On average, around 20 tonnes of municipal solid waste and 27 tonnes of agricultural waste are generated daily in Hatta. This project is expected to benefit a total of 1,147 homes. The municipality has distributed over 2,500 new waste storage and collection containers, each differentiated by its colour, featuring illustrations and instructions to help with waste segregation. Let's raise public awareness about the significance of correctly segregating waste at source. #Sustainability #WasteManagement #DubaiMunicipality #dubai #uae #sustainability

Abu Dhabi's #wastewater authority is searching for opportunities to scale up its Central Asian operations. GWI's editor Thomas Scotney investigates. The Abu Dhabi Sustainable Water Solutions Company (SWS Holding) is aiming to become the first #utility in the region to achieve 100% wastewater reuse levels, after smashing through a key target in 2023. SWS Holding's secured the #WaterReuse Project of the Year award last month for achieving its target of recycling 80% of the wastewater treated by the plants it runs. Achieved in 2023, the target saw significant volumes of water used in agriculture and landscaping now sourced from treated wastewater. This reduced demand for energy-hungry desalinated water supplies and strain on groundwater resources. SWS chief executive Ahmed Al Shamsi told GWI that the transformation is a major driver of the utility’s push to achieve profitability since it was established last year. 🔋 **Attention Companies and Individuals: Proper Disposal of Lithium Batteries is Crucial!** In light of recent updates, it's imperative to raise awareness about the safe disposal of lithium batteries. To ensure environmental safety and compliance with regulations, it's now mandated to dispose of lithium batteries only through Dubai Municipality approved recyclers. Make sure the recycler is listed in the latest updated recyclers list provided by Dubai Municipality. Following the Waste Disposal System (WDS) process is vital to avoid potential fines and ensure responsible handling of hazardous materials. Let's collectively contribute to a greener and safer environment by adhering to proper disposal protocols. Together, we can make a significant difference. #recycle #lithiumionbatteries #electricvehicles #dubai #uae #share 🌱♻️

Rawalpindi: Under the ‘Clean Punjab’ initiative, Rawalpindi’s waste management in 17 tehsils has been handed over to private companies, with services starting December 1. The remaining areas — Pind Dadan Khan, Khewra, Kallar Kahar, and Choa Saidan Shah — are expected to complete this process by January 1. To boost public involvement in the ‘Clean Punjab’ initiative, the government has launched the ‘Clean Rawalpindi’ app and a toll-free number, 1139, for residents to report waste issues and get updates on collection services. Minister Rafiq explained that the program’s goal is a strong local government across Punjab. In the new system, garbage will be collected from homes, placed in containers, and taken to temporary transfer stations before reaching main dumping sites. Additionally, four-wall enclosures for waste will be built in villages, each serving four union councils. Almost every tehsil will have a transfer station, ensuring garbage is sent to dumping points the same day. Minister Rafiq emphasized that the Punjab government is providing all necessary resources to ensure the success of the waste management system, stressing that there will be no compromise on cleanliness in the cities and villages. Abu Dhabi is set to establish a pioneering facility aimed at reclaiming recyclable materials from municipal solid waste, marking a significant milestone in waste management. Developed by Tadweer Group, the greenfield Material Recovery Facility (MRF) is slated to possess a capacity of 1.3 million metric tonnes annually and will be situated within the Al Mafraq industrial area. Encompassing over 90,000 square meters, it will rank among the largest MRFs in the region. The primary objective of this initiative is to gather municipal waste and extract recyclable resources such as metals, plastics, and other materials. By maximizing waste diversion from landfills through recycling and preparing feedstock for the Abu Dhabi Waste to Energy facility, the project aims to elevate recycling rates, foster a circular economy, and align with the group's goal of diverting 80 percent of Abu Dhabi's waste from landfills by 2030. #Abudhabi #recover #Materials #waste
