Usually in civil engineering, we are trying to stabilize a structure but in many cases, we want a structure that gets unstable when a force is applied to it. If it is surprising for you, This video explains the concept of civil engineering where we need unstable structures where reaction forces are not enough for our structure to produce a reaction forces against the applied load and some life examples where we can use such unstable structures. #CivilEngineering #StructureAnalysis

Cofferdams! What is it? A cofferdam is a temporary watertight enclosure built within or near a body of water, such as a river, lake, or sea, to allow construction work to be carried out in a dry environment. It is primarily used in construction projects where structures such as bridges, piers, dams, or foundations must be built underwater or in flood-prone areas. It's features: * Temporary structure * Watertight enclosure * Made of various materials * Dewatering Different Types of Cofferdams: * Earth cofferdams * Sheet pile cofferdams * Double-walled cofferdams * Braced cofferdams Uses of Cofferdams: * Bridge piers construction in rivers * For dams or culverts * Repairing dry docks or ships * For the installation of offshore wind farms Conclusion Cofferdams are critical for many engineering and construction projects because they allow for dry construction in otherwise, inundated areas. #construction#bridges#civilengineering#cofferdams

Very informative and easier to understand the basic of how this systems work. It is those of time consuming and complex project but is worth to experience and get involved in the process. That’s why I love construction and the best decision made to stay in this field!

🌊 How Are Underwater Structures Built? One of the burning questions that led me to pursue civil engineering was: How do they build structures underwater? Ever wondered how massive underwater abutments and piers are constructed? It’s all made possible by cofferdams, a clever solution that temporarily holds back water, creating a dry workspace for engineers to build solid foundations where you'd think it’s impossible!
