I didn't think it would happen, but I just signed a freelance contract. I waited 3.5 months for a job... I couldn't even get a vastly underpaid email design job. I struggled, for sure. I know many are struggling out there. Now I have been offered three contracts all at once and have chosen the one that best suits my current need to recover from months without work: decent pay, a soon-ish start, and a great-sounding project. I'm eager to get going, and I have noticed a similar eagerness within the industry to get things back-on-track. For all of the designers out there still looking for a role and sick of the "it'll happen soon... don't you worry" comments, well it may ACTUALLY happen now as companies certainly seem to have loosened their purse strings and have renewed budgets. The difference is night and day. Here's an AI-generated picture accurately portraying my reaction at the time the contract came through. I'm still hovering in this position.

It may sound obvious, but you always gotta start with a plan! As obvious as it seems, I tried to start freelancing without a plan multiple times over the past several years. And each time, it was an epic fail. I was floundering, saying yes to the wrong projects, trying to do things because they were trendy not because I was actually good at them. And to be honest, I wasn’t fully committed to doing what needed to be done to be successful. But when I finally got serious about transitioning to freelancing full time, I made my plan, and asked myself some really important questions to ensure I was ready and focused. Are you ready to make your plan? https://lnkd.in/ecrrdn8d If you want to pause and have the same Q&A with yourself, I created a fillable, downloadable worksheet with all the questions you should ask yourself to jumpstart your freelance journey: https://lnkd.in/egSuhEwV #freelance #careertransition #gettingstarted
