Global accountancy body with members in 180 countries celebrates major landmark of exceeding 250,000 members in its 120th anniversary year ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) has unveiled its latest membership figures of 252,500, taking its membership to above quarter of a million following decades of strong growth. It celebrated its 200,000 member landmark just seven years ago in 2017, and the new figures represent an increase of around 2% in membership since this time last year. ACCA also has more than 526,000 future members. Ronnie Patton, president of ACCA, said: ‘The scale and scope of this achievement is amazing, and it says so much about how we attract so many people to join our worldwide community. It also highlights the substantial contribution we make to the number of qualified professional accountants across the global economy. ‘Our members live and work in 180 countries. This means that the voice of ACCA is heard in every corner of the planet, and the positive influence of ACCA members is felt everywhere. There's good news for former ACCA members considering reinstating their membership: the process has recently become more accessible and straightforward. One significant change is that ACCA no longer requires back payment of all membership fees for years spent off the register. Here’s an overview of what you need to know if you're considering rejoining the ACCA network. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 If you’ve previously resigned or were removed from the ACCA register, here’s what the updated process entails: • 𝗖𝘂𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗬𝗲𝗮𝗿’𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗯𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 You’ll only need to pay the subscription fee for the current year, eliminating the financial burden of catching up on multiple years' fees. • 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝗲 A reinstatement fee applies to reactivate your membership status. • 𝗢𝘂𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 Any unpaid fees owed at the time of removal from the register must still be settled. However, back fees for additional years off the register are no longer required. • 𝗖𝗣𝗗 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 As part of the reinstatement form, members must complete the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) declaration. This ensures you’ve maintained the knowledge and skills required to uphold ACCA standards. 🌱 120 Years of Innovation: ACCA's Role in Shaping the Future of Accountancy. The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) is celebrating its 120th anniversary, marking significant milestones in its history: Global Reach: Founded in London in 1904 with just eight male members, ACCA has expanded to over 252,000 members and 526,000 future members across 180 countries. (I love the global aspect of ACCA & Accounting) Women: The story states in 1909, Ethel Ayres Purdie became the first female member. It goes on to state “We became the first accountancy body to admit  women”. This article in the Journal of Accountancy states that Christine Ross was admitted as a CPA in the US on Dec. 21, 1899. https://lnkd.in/gUk6ACGB Christine Ross completed her exams 18 months earlier but certification was delayed because of her gender. Both women trailblazers in their respective countries. Royal Charter: ACCA received its UK Royal Charter in 1974, underscoring its commitment to professional excellence. Educational Initiatives: The organisation offers 800 cutting-edge courses and has partnered with 7,959 Approved Employers globally, enhancing career opportunities for finance professionals. Digital Learning: Through its digital platform, ACCA-X, ACCA has made accountancy careers more accessible to thousands worldwide. Sustainability Focus: Recently, ACCA launched a Professional Diploma in Sustainability, aiming to equip accountants with skills to contribute to a sustainable future. (ACCA was talking about the Environment and sustainability when I joined 30 years ago. I checked and In 1990, ACCA introduced its Environmental Reporting Award - whomever made this push and whomever accepted it - it was really quite visionary.
