The September quarterly report has now been published and it holds some interesting information :) There are now 680,123 active NDIS participants, and a massive increase of new to the scheme in the past quarter when comparted to the quarter before. The Service Guarantee shows that there is still considerable pain being felt, with many of the metrics showing a worse result than the quarter before. Plan Management continues to inch upwards, 64% nationally and support coordination also increasing to 46% nationally. In the September quarter there seems to be a rise again in the number of providers delivering disability related support 193979 providers 😵 , of which 13870 were registered at some point.. 💜 https://lnkd.in/ghJR-Hu

Yesterday, our Client Engagement Officer, Sarah Parry, attended the NDIS reform community catch-up in Perth. The event featured NDIS Minister Bill Shorten and NDIA Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Falkingham, who addressed key questions from service providers, participants, and disability advocates. Major Highlights: 💛❤️🖤 Increased First Nation representation, with First Nations planners working directly with First Nations participants. 🧠 Inclusion of psychosocial and mental health diagnoses will continue under the scheme. 📚 Easy read plans will be launched by the end of 2024. 🤸♀️ The role of high-quality support workers and support coordinators will remain intact. 🌐 Simplifying plans and the website for easier participant understanding. 🛠️ Enhanced assessment tools and options to adjust plans to better fit individual needs. Clarity and reassurance was provided on the following points: ✅ Inclusion of Psychosocial Issues: These will not be excluded from the reform. ✅ Appeal Rights: Participants can still appeal NDIS plan changes. ✅ Growth of the Scheme: The scheme aims for an 8% annual growth rate, with more children expected to join. Our team remain committed to understanding these reforms and advocating for change for all NDIS participants. #NDIS #NDISsupport #Reform #DisabilityAdvocate #Inclusion #Sustainability #CommunitySupport

Big News for NDIS Providers and Participants! The Bill sets the stage for essential reforms that will take time to develop in collaboration with the disability community. These changes include: - Assessment and budgeting reforms - New navigator role functions - Improvements to plan management services - Integrity enhancements - The new psychosocial early intervention service This co-design process ensures that people with disability continue to have a strong voice in shaping the NDIS. While the Bill hasn’t taken effect yet, you can expect changes in the coming weeks. Until then, all processes and supports remain the same. Stay tuned for more updates over the next few weeks to help you understand these changes and prepare for what's ahead. The NDIS website will be regularly updated with the latest information. #NDIS #LegislationUpdate #DisabilitySupport #DidYouKnow #InclusiveCommunity #Pinionz # #ndisprovider #ndisaustralia

The recent NDIS price review is a devastating setback for people with disabilities and the providers who support them. Flawed cost models, barriers to high intensity support payments, and yet again no increase for support coordination and therapy prices threaten essential services. Participants are vulnerable and many providers are on the brink. We call on the NDIA to reinstate loading for all registered providers of at least 1%. This afternoon I participated in the Disability Intermediaries Australia presentation on Support Coordination Market Updates facilitated by Jess Harper Some key points to take away: - The roll out of PACE has slowed down. DIA suspect this is due to significant back logs within the NDIS; - On average, 45% of NDIS participants receive Support Coordination funding, this number is slowly increasing across States and Territories; - NDIS recommendations are recommendations only. They have yet to be accepted or rejected by Commonwealth Government and State and Territory Governments; - Bill Shorten states there IS a future for GOOD plan managers; - Proposed navigators to replace liaison officers (education, health, justice), LACs, PRCs, SCs and PMs. Consultation and design to happen over the next 2 years with $20 in the federal budget; - Navigators will cost the scheme significantly more than the current model; - SCs currently support 300,000 participants. With the proposed introduction of Navigators, they will provide support to 1-1.5M people with a disability; - DIA have made recommendations for a price increase for SCs. LACs, aged care, icare all receive higher funding compared to SCs; and, - IF recommendations are approved, the anticipated roll out will be in 2027-2028.

Did you know that NDIS participants are almost 3 times more likely to live in an area of extreme socio-economic disadvantage than an in an area of high socio-economic advantage? NDIS data as at 30 June 2024 is summarised in the table below. Most people don't know how suburbs score, so I have inserted some examples for larger States, to give you an idea. The key reason for this unlevel playing field, is that people with profound disability are much less likely to be employed. Compounding this disadvantage is the fact that a family member has often exited employment to be the person's lifetime carer, and we all know how hopelessly inadequate the carer's allowance is. Some would say that the biggest failure of NDIS over the last 11 years is that it has failed to move the dial in relation to creating sustainable employment opportunities for NDIS participants. That may change soon thanks to the Government's investment in a much-needed Disability Employment Centre of Excellence (grant opportunity opened today). At SAN Support, we are here to guide NDIS participants in understanding their coverage and connecting them to appropriate resources for every stage of life. I am deeply concerned about the state of support coordination and the broader disability sector. Despite the Disability Royal Commission’s (DRC) critical recommendations for comprehensive reform, we continue to see businesses closing and funding for support coordination being significantly reduced. This is particularly troubling given that the NDIS has been consistently lowering funding, putting participants at risk, while simultaneously the government has acknowledged the DRC recommendations. The DRC’s recommendations were designed to address systemic issues and improve the quality and accessibility of support services. However, the failure to increase funding for Support Coordinators and align NDIS pricing with these recommendations undermines the reform process and threatens the viability of essential support services. It is crucial that the government directs the NDIA to implement the DRC recommendations as intended. How long will we have to wait, how many more businesses will close or participants will be put at risk, before the government is compelled to take decisive action? #BillShorten #EnoughIsEnough#impissedoff
