#Alzheimer’s vs. Lewy Body Dementia While both are progressive neurological disorders, key differences exist: • #Alzheimer’s primarily affects memory early on, while Lewy Body Dementia (#LBD) often presents with movement issues, visual hallucinations, and fluctuating cognition. • Sleep disturbances and sensitivity to medications are more pronounced in #LBD. • #Alzheimer’s is linked to amyloid plaques and tau tangles, while LBD is caused by alpha-synuclein protein deposits. Understanding these distinctions helps tailor treatment and care. #Dementia #Neurology #Alzheimers #LewyBodyDementia

🧠 Human Brain Matters 🧠 The fat is the main constituent of the human brain 💫 The forms of the fats your body receives with the food defines the quality of our thoughts, memory, body performance. 🔬 Nutricia recently patented a new approach toward the digestible lipids formulation that provide the best myelination of the brain. The formula is made for the kids to support their brain development, but the approach can potentially improve the adult brains. 🧠 The formula contains lipids, which are in the form of lipid globules that are coated on the surface with phospholipids for increasing myelination in the brain . __ #mentalhealth #brain #health #wellness #humanity #neuroscience #medicine #longivity #HBE #humanbrainexpo #3hbrain #science #AI #brainhealth #ethics #helpfulbrain #innovation #innovationmanagement #events #news #biotech #psychiatry #news #management #mentalhealth #brain #health #wellness #humanity #psychology #healthybrain #happybrain #neuroscience #HBE #humanbrainexpo #3hbrain #science #AI #brainhealth #ethics #helpfulbrain #innovation #innovationmanagement #events #news #biotech #psychiatry NeuroQ LG NOVA, Fujitsu Research, Niantic, Inc., West Virginia Department of Economic Development, Boston Medical Center (BMC), Clalit Innovation, ARC Innovation Health Innovation Network, Siemens Healthineers, Health Innovation East, WONDRx | Innovation for Better, Alder Hey Innovation JAMA Psychiatry Massachusetts General Hospital Psychiatry Academy Boston University NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Vanderbilt University Medical Center University Hospitals Lundbeck Allegheny Health Network Lehigh Valley Health Network Keck Medicine of USC UCI Health The MetroHealth System (Cleveland, OH) PeaceHealth LifeStance Health Hennepin Healthcare Telecare Corporation Harborview Medical Center San Francisco Department of Public Health Defense Health Agency Sutter Health - Bay Area Kaweah Health Almana Hospitals Barwon Health Mersey Care

🧠🔍 Iron Overload in the Brain Linked to Cognitive Decline in the Elderly 🔍🧠 A groundbreaking study reveals a significant connection between elevated iron levels in the brain and cognitive impairments among older adults. Researchers analyzed brain samples from 437 seniors using advanced MRI techniques and mass spectrometry, uncovering critical insights into how iron accumulation impacts cognitive health. Key Findings: - Elevated iron concentrations primarily affect gray matter regions. - High levels of iron are strong predictors of white matter hyperintensities (WMH), a marker of neurodegeneration. - Iron’s role in oxidative stress is crucial to understanding cognitive decline. This research underscores the importance of maintaining iron homeostasis for preserving cognitive functions. As we look towards future interventions, managing brain iron levels could be pivotal in combating age-related cognitive impairments. A new study challenges the link between benzodiazepines and dementia, but raises concerns about brain volume loss. 🧠 🦐 Interviewed by Medscape, I find the subtle impacts on hippocampal and amygdalar volumes underscore the need for judicious prescribing and exploring alternatives for anxiety and insomnia. 🤔 Memory, learning, and emotional regulation are at risk, let alone abuse potential and fall risk. ✳ To my fellow docs, what's your take on balancing benefits vs. long-term risks? 👩🏾⚕️ 👨🏾⚕️ #neurology #benzodiazepines #brainhealth #clinicalresearch

As an advocate for those living with what has proven to be a chronic SARS-Cov-2 infection, referred to as Long Covid, and has endeavored to educate themselves about that which has been referred to as "brain fog," they should definitely be avoided in that population, and we have been aware of this since 2022. It is quite remarkable how well prepared we were to preserve the immune competence and cognition of the current and future generation, as we have been in an almost identical situation. Certainly not the first time we have observed a virus that depletes CD4 cells, it is persistent, there is an aversion to the use of non-pharmaceutical interventions, vaccines are not protective, and there is forward transmission. The argument to borrow from HIV medicine was made on September 28th and 29th, 2020. It was on the 28th that it became known SARS-Cov-2 depletes the CD4 compartment. The very next day, Kenneth Podell proved his prescience when he stated individuals would live with the functional equivalent of HIV Associated Neurocognitive Decline. Multiple Neuroinvasive Pathways in COVID-19 https://lnkd.in/eApQv223 "One can draw on the experience with an HIV/AIDS epidemic. The initial understanding of HIV/AIDS was that of the virus affecting the immune system by depleting T cells, which resulted in opportunistic infections of multiple organs, including the brain. However, it did not take long to discover that the disease could also attack the brain directly, which resulted in long-term cognitive impairment. Subsequently, HIV encephalopathy and AIDS dementia complex leading to long-term cognitive impairment were discovered [87]. Based on the emerging literature, it is reasonable to hypothesize a somewhat similar scenario may unfold in relationship to COVID-19." The Central Nervous System reservoir in both populations expands through the same mechanism of Tunneling Nanotubes, implicated by Ana Pepe. Both populations experience the productive infection of the same cell types within the CNS reservoir. Dr. Apple at UCSF found the neurocognitive impairment to be of the same magnitude as HAND, relying upon the Frascati Criteria. Cerebrospinal Fluid Offers Clues to Post-COVID ‘Brain Fog’ https://lnkd.in/evzzC-dA The very same institution to which Apple belongs provided guidance to those entrusted with the care of the HIV positive. A Healthcare Provider’s Guide to HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Disorder (HAND): Diagnosis, pharmacologic management, non-pharmacologic management, and other considerations. https://lnkd.in/gmj3TGna Benzodiazepines are among the drug classes contraindicated.
