Junior motion designers are lost. Remote work is great, but junior designers have told us they have trouble learning and getting mentorship. So what did we do about it? We created the Fly on the Wall program. Fly on the Wall invites talent to join us on motion design projects and observe. This allows us to include and educate more people than a traditional internship. The Motion Flies sign an NDA, and then join our slack channels, client Zoom calls and Milanote boards. They truly see projects come together from beginning to end. Why? • To learn the process and see it unfold in real time. • Understand the true language of motion. • See the best way of communicating and posting work. • How to organize and address client feedback. • To build community. • To watch seasoned creatives pitch, and discuss work with clients. • To break down barriers in our industry and build relationships. FOTW provides mentorship, community and so much more. Got questions? If you're interested in the program, drop a comment below.

Hi! It's been a while and that's my bad. I had an awesome summer internship at one of my favorite companies so far, Justworks! I'm not one to announce starting new jobs but I do reflect and share when it's over. I had such a great experience learning and improving user experiences for small businesses to thrive. I learned the best way think about the user journey as a whole before designing. I learned exactly how content designers and product designers collaborate to create intuitive interfaces. How important it is to lend your voice at every stage, one virtue of the experience design team is "feedback early and often." Being a part of those conversations were so valuable. Working on multiple projects at the same time was one of my favorite parts. I like variety, so switching between different work and seeing it through ensured each day or week was not the same. There was a demo day for our summer assignment, and mine was a content audit of Justworks' mobile app. I didn't know what I was going to do to "demo" a Google spreadsheet but with some more thinking and the help of engineering, I created commands in Slack that allowed you to recall content from the audit I completed and the style guide, which was especially useful for the larger team. Another accomplishment I am proud of is finding the team's biggest issue and implementing a solution. Like many companies, Justworks' content design team was made up of two people. They work hard designing for multiple sections of the company so keeping track of what content is on production was nearly impossible with their workload. I created a system to help keep a record of the most up-to-date content. Most of all, I felt like I belonged. As a writer, and someone who can't stand to work on one thing for a long time, exploring the different industries was great. I didn't see one title or one path for me. Hell, getting me to take up a minor in college was a whole thing because I looked at it as being tied down when there was so much to discover. But since I found content design and actively pursued it, I feel fulfilled. It blends all of my favorite parts of writing and thinking nicely. I also know that I can go back to exploring anytime. For now, I'm looking for entry-level roles in #contentdesign and #uxwriting. Thanks so much to everyone at Justworks, and you all for reading. :)

Hello Everyone! 🎉 Excited to share a project I completed during my web development internship at Motioncut! 🎉 As a part , I developed an animated login page using HTML, CSS. If you're looking for work, don't give up. (resources and tips, part 1 of many) We know how terrible the job market is right now in animation. I'm sharing tips I can provide from my own experiences and what I've heard from others. 💡 Tip: Reach out to studios personally, not just through a jobs application. I got my first animation job by asking a teacher (whom I built a relationship with during school) if the studio she worked for had any internships since I didn't see anything on their website. She said, "I have no idea, let me ask!". A few conversations later, I became the studio's first intern and was hired full-time immediately after graduation. Small studios in particular don't have full HR teams, and may not have a careers page. This doesn't mean they aren't thinking about how to provide opportunities. Our team at Open Pixel Studios is just 2, and over the years we've had 6 interns and have worked with over 50 freelancers on various projects. We do not have a careers page and likely won't for some time. Our internships were through building partnerships with universities in our local region, as we value opportunities for students outside of major animation hubs. You never know how else a studio can utilize what you offer. Talk to them about their needs and learn what they do. Build the relationship over time. I know it's easier said than done. I know it's exhausting, but don't give up, even if it takes time. #JobHunting #Animation
