IPL (Indian Premier League) has become India’s most celebrated festival for more than a decade. As the final match of the 17th season is around the corner, I came across a very interesting article from the Economic Times regarding the auction process and its fairness for both players and team management. The recent episode following the LSG vs SRH match, where the former faced a crushing defeat, has sparked a discussion on the power distribution between players and team management. The article suggests a strategy that could potentially balance this relationship and alter the landscape of team-player interactions. The IPL Auction System The IPL’s auction system is a modified version of the traditional Vickrey Auction method, designed to create unpredictability and excitement for fans and stakeholders. In the auction, players are sold to the highest bidder through the open cry method. Each team is provided with a fixed budget within which they must assemble their squad from the common pool of players. While this method seems fair at a high level, it does not adequately protect the interests of players in cases where they prefer not to associate with certain teams or franchises for various reasons. The Opt-Out Card Strategy To address this concern and systematically represent players' interests, Joy Bhattacharjya discusses a strategy called the Opt-Out card. Players can use this card to prevent a specific team from bidding on them during the auction, without disclosing this to anyone except the particular franchise. The opt-out card strategy balances the relationship by empowering players and adding a layer of complexity for team strategists in planning their auction tactics. This approach shows potential for progressive improvement, enhancing the reputation of the IPL and attracting talent from across the globe. There are not even 10 orgs who are currently active in India moreover there are orgs scamming players TO’s not clearing PP . Krafton not allowing paid scrims . I can’t see a method where Atleast 100-200 players would get a financial benefit / monetisation. BGMI esports looks fabulous from outside but from inside it’s exhausting for eyes ears and brain with little chance of monetisation. Even the biggest BGMI event’s #1 is just 75lac which if distributed between players coach and org turns out to be only 5-6 lacs what about the rest of the teams ?. BGMI ko hype karna ye sahi baat hai par players ke baare me nahi soch a ye to galat baat hai.
