This decade hasn’t exactly been a smooth sailing for the world, especially Europe. From Brexit to COVID-19, Russian-Ukrainian conflicts, the Israel-Palestine war, and natural disasters in food production zones, the world has been hit with several events that have affected the global food supply chain. A recent paper by Wayne Martindale and others has studied the collective impact of these events, known as the "Quadruple Whammy," on the European food supply chain. They have proposed strategies to improve the food system's resilience, such as investing in local food production and supply chains, diversifying supply chains and trade partnerships, strengthening food safety regulations and standards, and building resilience and preparedness. These strategies will be useful, not just for Europe but also for and the global food supply chain. It’s a great read. https://lnkd.in/eSUWTG-G

📰 The European food system is among the strongest in the world. Yet, it is vulnerable to supply disruptions with increasingly severe weather patterns and rising geopolitical tensions threatening the EU’s food security. Recently, food security has moved up on the EU’s political agenda as greater self-sufficiency in food is seen as a crucial building block for a more resilient continent in general. But systemic resilience to shocks to European food systems is still fairly under-developed. Read the report on Stress testing the EU Food system here 👇
