🚸 The Best Kindergarten You’ve Ever Seen In this thought-provoking TED Talk, Takaharu Tezuka highlights his architectural masterpiece: Fuji Kindergarten in Tokyo, Japan. His vision of education and architecture merges seamlessly, creating a unique space for children to learn and grow through interaction with nature. 🏃 Key insights from the design: 1️⃣ Circular Layout: Encourages children to move freely, exploring without boundaries. 2️⃣ No Barriers: Classrooms without walls foster an open learning environment. 3️⃣ Natural Integration: Trees grow through the building, inviting children to climb and engage with their surroundings. This approach to education redefines what learning spaces can be, reminding us how the environment influences childhood development. 🎨🌍 I absolutely agree with the philosophy here. Let children be free like sheep, exploring and engaging with the world, instead of confining them in “safe” classrooms. This environment fosters creativity, independence, and real-world learning. 👉 What are your thoughts on how architecture can impact education? Let children be children! Takaharu Tezuka designed a kindergarten that has no boundaries between the inside and outside which allows children to play and explore freely, without feeling cooped up in a classroom. In this generation we always tend to keep everything under control, forgetting that children are supposed to be outside like in the older generation. In his TED Talk, Tezuka strongly states not to control them, don’t protect them too much and they need to tumble sometimes and that makes them learn how to live in this world. It was an enjoyable research project for me, to delve deep into a comparative analysis of the educational philosophies of Sri Aurobindo and Maria Montessori, and writing a 35-page paper titled, “Makings of a Truly Learner-centric Education: Sri Aurobindo and Maria Montessori”. The book incorporating this paper will be published soon.
Makings of a Truly Learner-centric Education: Sri Aurobindo and Maria Montessori As part of its offerings on the 150th birthday of Sri Aurobindo, Sri Aurobindo Center for Advanced Research (SACAR), Pondicherry launched a project titled Sri Aurobindo: A Visionary Among World Thinkers. Dr. Beloo Mehra was one of the scholars to be invited to contribute to this project, both in the Auro Talk Series as well as to submit a chapter for the proposed book. She chose the area of Education and conducted extensive research into the work of Maria Montessori in the light of Sri Aurobindo’s and Mother’s vision of Integral Education. This 75-minute-long conversation highlights a few key ideas from Maria Montessori’s extensive work, and connects them to some of the essential ideas from the educational philosophy and thought of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother. https://lnkd.in/gDdV9wsy
