Say hello to Declan at La Forge in France. Declan is one of the many farmers in France making great use of our superior Tractor weight. Great to see how our weights are being used to make a difference on farms in continental Europe. As with all of our products the design and how we can make a positive impact for the agri community as a whole is paramount to us and it's great to see this product being so well received. Andfjord criticizes ‘one size fits all’ proposal for land-based farms in Q3 update Norwegian land-based farmer Andfjord Salmon has taken issue with new regulations for the young sector proposed by the country's ministry of trade, industry and fisheries alongside its third quarter report. The company has responded to the government proposal -- which it described as a "one size fits all" policy -- to say that such an approach would have detrimental impacts on fish health, energy consumption levels and the competitiveness of Norwegian companies. In the Norwegian Fish Health Report 2023, published today, the farmed salmon deaths from jellyfish are within the top five categories, while sea lice treatments are the number one cause of salmon deaths. Our Smoltscreen and Bloomshield semi-open salmon aquaculture systems are designed to protect farmed salmon and sea trout from both these challenges, along with algal blooms. Bio-security is cited as an issue concerning fish health in this report. If salmon pens do not have to undergo frequent sea lice treatments from visiting de-licing vessels, then bio-security should also improve. https://lnkd.in/e24UDCHj

At the end of our proof of concept Smoltscreen trial with the Marine Institute of Ireland, a final fish sampling and gill histology test was conducted by PHARMAQ part of Zoetis. They found Caligus elongatus sea lice amongst the 30 smolts sampled from the control pen and no sea lice on the 30 smolts sampled from the Smoltscreen pen. for the 5th time of sampling, no sea lice were found on the smolts in the Smoltscreen pen. In the four month trial, there were no mortalities in the Smoltscreen pen. On one gill histology from the control pen a micro jellyfish was found, while once again the gills of the Smoltscreen pen were in good health with no micro jellyfish. There were signs of the presence of the amoeba Paramoeba perurans in both the control and Smoltscreen pens, with some gill histology indicating mild hyperplasia. However, Pharmaq considered the level of mild hyperplasia was consistent with normal conditions in farmed salmon smolts and not requiring treatment - presenting the question of whether avoiding sea lice treatment created less stress in the salmon and a lower severity or even incidence of AGD. In short, avoiding sea lice treatment could possibly reduce AGD problems as well?

Prior to the 1990’s, for roughly 200 years, we American newcomers to the Pacific Northwest (PNW) enhanced our means by exploiting transportation innovations, the area’s unique natural resources and global trading opportunities. We arrived with sailing ships and traded with natives for the sea otter pelts that were highly prized in China. When they were depleted we traded (in competition with the British) for inland animal furs, especially the beaver pelts that were highly prized in England. As those pelts became more scarce we traded with natives for salmon which were also highly prized around the world. When (with deference to Jared Diamond) our ‘Guns, Germs and Booze’ decimated local native populations, we disintermediated the natives and accelerated the natural resources exploitation ourselves. San Francisco, built largely from timber, seemed to regularly burn which spurred demand for PNW lumber and timbers sawn from our fine-grained Douglas fir. The Japanese became increasingly enthusiastic buyers of our fine-grained softwoods. The coming of railroads around the beginning of the 20th Century brought with it new, affordable access to distant domestic markets for our lumber and other man-enhanced, previously under-exploited timber products like red cedar shakes, plywood, papers and chemical cellulose feedstocks. It has only been the last 25-30 years that we have been forced to find markets for- and (most importantly) add value to- our sustainably-grown, less globally unique and valuable, replacement natural resources. Our ‘smarts’ have only comparatively recently surpassed the importance of our natural resource inheritance.

Alongside the high level of technology in modern combine harvesters, the core principles of mechanical threshing and airflow originate from machines built in the 70's and 80's.
Bready Farms cutting spring barley with the New Holland Clayson 8060 which was built in 1986. 38 year harvests later and still going strong, in the hills of Donegal. On a cracking saturday it was nice to catch up with the Clayson 8060 and as you can see plenty of straw and grain off this field #arimagery #farming #agriculture #farmlife https://lnkd.in/et4XjKND

Here we have the smallest and the biggest cows in our herd: Dexter and Angus. On our farm, we keep both breeds because we've found that Angus cattle are a bit too large for our natural pastures and wetlands, while the Dexters, with their shorter legs, sometimes struggle when they have to cross small, muddy rivers. So, we decided to mix things up and breed Angus and Dexter cattle together. In Lithuania, many farms stick with just one pure breed, even if it's not the best fit for their land. We believe in adapting our herd to the environment, not the other way around.
