MOLA (Museum of London Archaeology)’s Post

Let's get to the bottom of it 🕵♂️ What's so special about the base of a pot? Let's investigate... 🔎 Supervisor Alex is thrilled with this base, thanks to what has been left inside. We can analyse the contents to look for remains such as lipids (fats), pollen and other residues to see what exactly was stored in this pot. This can tell us what people were eating or transporting. We can date this pot base by looking at its shape and comparing it to known types (typological dating). What do you think was inside this pot? 🤔 #A428BlackCat Excavations are being undertaken by MOLA, as part of the National Highways A428 Black Cat to Caxton Gibbet improvements.
