Sleepless Nights, Big Dreams As someone who can usually sleep through anything but always wakes up when my child needs me, I’ve been feeling the effects of some sleepless nights lately. Launching this crowdfunder has been both exhilarating and exhausting, with so much learned in just the first 24 hours! One big takeaway I’ve long believed in but am now fully living is that sometimes you just have to put it out there. As a recovering perfectionist, I’ve clung to the mantra, “Done is better than perfect” (thanks, Jo Stone – it’s become a given for me!). Yesterday, we took that leap, stepping boldly into the digital world to share our mission and ambitions more widely. So much work has gone into preparing for this crowdfunder, not just the logistics but the deep thinking about what we really want to achieve. We’re driven by a big vision and a commitment to real, positive change. Personally, I want to show my son that we can make a difference by taking action, yes there is a detailed plan! And to be honest, it all starts with me. This journey is a constant learning curve, reminding me that change begins within ourselves. I’d love to invite you to join us on this journey. The future of getting home safely at night has landed! Fleet is a transport company making it possible for us all to go out, get around and get home safely by blending the best of private hire with public transport. You've possibly felt unsafe yourself, at some point or other, and there's plenty of research out there that highlights the importance of frequent, safe night-time transport: • 1 in 2 women say they avoid travelling at certain times • 59% of people feel unsafe using taxis and private hire vehicles at night (Fleet 2024 and London TravelWatch 2022) This has an impact on the way we want to live our lives, and it's pretty bad news for businesses and the economy, too. Hospitality and night-time economy don't need that. None of us needs that! The amount for a good meal at your favourite restaurant, an outing to the cinema with the family, a good coffee with cake. As I continue training for the Spartan Ultra, I'm constantly inspired by the incredible work of Meals on Wheels of Greenville. Let me share why their mission is so crucial: *They deliver nutritious meals to seniors and homebound individuals, combating isolation and malnutrition. *Their service extends beyond humans - they also provide pet food, ensuring beloved companions are cared for too. *Volunteers offer vital social connection, often being the only human contact some recipients have all day. We're making progress on our fundraising goal, but we need your help to cross the finish line. We've raised $640 so far, with $360 left to hit our $1,000 target. Good morning everyone. as some people may know I do charity events once a year to try and help children charities with huge amount of help from Bateman Groundworks Ltd Me and 8 others will be climbing SCARFELL PIKE on 19th of July For JAMES PAGET HOSPITALChildren’s ward 10 / children’s day patients For kids that need daily treatments. This will hopefully allow the children to have a more comfortable and pleasant stay as will be able to provide a lot of distractions for the children to keep them occupied. Sock Rocket was born 8 years ago out of a combination of boredom with my then-freelance-based web development business, and a desire to marry subscriptions and social enterprise to see what was possible. Turns out A LOT was possible. In our first year of business (2016), Sock Rocket donated 280 pairs of socks to 1 organization (shoutout to Hull Services) and handed out 100 or so more in person on the streets of downtown Calgary. I ran the business entirely in 3-4 days of work each month as I focussed on my web development company and my golf game. A humble beginning and very much a hobby project. 7 years later this is my full time job + some, we employ several people, and we sling custom merch to some of the biggest companies in Canada. So far this year we’ve donated 128,000 pairs of socks to 70ish organizations, and it’s very likely we’ll hit 200,000 pairs donated this year alone by the time Christmas rolls through. Thank you all for your love and support. Thanks for believing in Sock Rocket, but mostly thanks for believing in social enterprise. Spoiler alert - it’s not really about socks, y’all. Socks are a vehicle to tell a bigger story - It’s about the power of social enterprise. Sock Rocket is a very simple application of a social enterprise, and I’m just here to prove that if we can do it, that means YOU CAN DO IT BETTER! There is so much potential good to be done out there, and I really believe that businesses hold a ton of power to be able to enact change. Thanks again for believing in me, humans. It means a ton.
