Never been more important to stand together against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT), celebrating LGBTOQ+ people globally and raising awareness of the work still needed to combat discrimination. Pride in Diversity
🏳️🌈Today, 17 May, is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) which celebrates LGBTQ+ people globally and raises awareness for the work still needed to combat discrimination. 🏳️🌈It was started in 2004 to commemorate the day in 1990 when the World Health Organization declassified homosexuality as a mental disorder. 🏳️⚧There is still a long way to go. As of 2023, there are still 64 countries where homosexuality is criminalised, around the world trans people continue to face violence and pathologisation and our intersex friends keep fighting for the right to bodily integrity, physical autonomy and self-determination. 🏳️⚧Over the years, the focus of the day has broadened to draw attention to the violence and discrimination experienced by all sexuality and gender diverse communities, as well as intersex people. 🏳️⚧Today, IDAHOBIT is recognised in more than 130 countries, including Australia. This year’s global theme is 'No one left behind: equality, freedom and justice for all'. It aims to encourage advocacy and celebrations in many forms – be it from human rights defenders, LGBTIQ civil society groups, millions of people in our communities, and our allies. 🏳️🌈Stand up and make your voice heard this IDAHOBIT day. ➡️For resources and more information, please visit: https://lnkd.in/g3F9vTer #IDAHOBIT #IDAHOBIT2024 #PrideInDiversity #ACON
