Fascinating paper from IPPR if you are as interested in the economic impact as the technology of AI - "If generative AI was widely integrated across the economy, we estimate it could provide an economic boost of 13 per cent of GDP. At the other extreme, in our ‘full displacement’ scenario, 8 million jobs could be lost with no GDP gains" https://lnkd.in/ejmuD-rf

Top 10 takeaways from the Stanford Institute for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI)'s #ai Index Report 2024. Strangely (at least for me), the environmental impact is not part of the takeaways, although the chapter on it (2.13 Environmental Impact of AI Systems) is very interesting. Just consider this figure below illustrating CO2 equivalent emissions. 1. AI beats humans on some tasks, but not on all. 2. #industry continues to dominate frontier AI research. 3. Frontier models get way more expensive. 4. The United States leads China, the EU, and the U.K. as the leading source of top AI models. 5. Robust and standardized evaluations for #llm responsibility are seriously lacking. 6. #generativeai investment skyrockets. 7. The data is in: AI makes workers more productive and leads to higher quality work. 8. #scientificprogress accelerates even further, thanks to AI. 9. AI has come to the Nobels! Daron Acemoglu received the Nobel in Economics for explaining the reasons of wealth inequality between countries. He has been very vocal about the role of AI and GenAI in this respect. Here is my 8 takeaways from Daron's studies on AI: -There's a lot of hype around AI, but getting the promised value will likely be more challenging than initially thought -Despite the hype, AI is already delivering significant benefits, and we can expect even more over time -AI, and Generative AI in particular, will transform businesses, industries, and even the way countries operate -Many companies are rushing to automate manual work, but this could lead to serious economic challenges and deepening inequality -A wiser approach would be to use AI to enhance human decision-making, allowing for smarter, faster choices and opening up new sectors of innovation—rather than simply automating jobs -US tech giants may be leading the change now, but developing countries and businesses still have a crucial role. Their choices will define whether AI drives positive or negative outcomes for society -Regulators must take a proactive and holistic approach, moving from reactive, penalty-based policies to incentive-driven frameworks that encourage responsible AI use -Policymakers should rethink education to equip future generations with the skills they need to thrive in an AI-driven world, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation. #AI #GenerativeAI #Innovation #FutureOfWork

"What is encouraging to see is that the trend is clear: #AI is something everyone will be investing in at some level. Over 50% of the respondents report #investing from €0.5 million to €10 million during the next 12 months. There is a good reason for these investments. According to studies by PwC, AI will contribute more than $15 trillion to the global economy by 2030 and global GDP may increase by as much as 14% by the same time." Special thanks once again to Silo AI for their annual Nordic State of AI report, offering comprehensive insights that guide informed decision-making. And indeed, it also highlights the rapid ascent of #GenAI. #ArtificialIntelligence #InvestmentInAI #NordicStateOfAI #GenerativeAI #AICompliance #AIOversight #AI2023 #AIAdaptation #AITrends

Artificial Intelligence Doing More with Less, at Scale - the Exponential Age Yesterday, at the LaingBuisson Private Health Summit in London, I had the privilege of presenting on the transformative power of artificial intelligence (AI) in our rapidly evolving world. The presentation, titled "Artificial Intelligence: Doing More with Less, at Scale - the Exponential Age," highlighted the dual nature of our current era—marked by both unprecedented challenges and immense potential. The battlelines are drawn! We are at the cusp of the Exponential Age, where AI's capabilities are expanding exponentially, driven by increasing compute power. This growth opens new avenues for creativity and innovation. However, this progress also brings disruption. Like the impact of all technological introductions of the past, traditional jobs will certainly be displaced; but this 'creative disruption' also will unveil opportunities for new roles and industries that we have yet to imagine. 3 Point Summary - 1/. The Ascendancy of AI - AI's growth will continue to accelerate, unlocking new creative possibilities and transforming industries. 2/. The Disruption of the Old Guard - as with past technological revolutions, AI will disrupt existing job markets, but it will also create new opportunities. 3/. Ethical AI Development - to ensure AI benefits society equitably, its development must prioritise fairness, accountability, and the elimination of biases. Let us embrace the Exponential Age with courage and vision, ready to transform challenges into opportunities and shape a future where AI empowers us to achieve significant growth. #AI #ArtificalIntelligence #Healthcare LaingBuisson Events #DigitalTransformation #Disruption #CreativeDestruction #PrivateAcute #PrivateHealth
