Leadership requires influence and trust, not authority. Leading volunteers and managing corporate teams both demand strong leadership. Volunteers, driven by purpose—not paychecks—flourish with clear communication, shared goals, and genuine appreciation. Likewise, corporate teams excel when aligned with meaningful visions and feel truly valued. The key difference? Volunteer leadership relies entirely on influence and trust—no “carrot or stick,” just purpose. People achieve incredible results when motivated by something bigger than themselves. This is why the Junior League of Dallas is a transformative leadership training ground. For over 100 years, Junior League of Dallas has aggregated high-impact volunteer opportunities, addressing critical issues like education, safety, and economic stability—factors that directly shape community health outcomes. I was initially drawn to the League for its deep community integration, but I’ve been amazed by how it trains women as leaders. I'm so grateful to the women who've seen more in me than what I see in myself. If you ever work with a Junior League woman, take note: they are leaders capable of extraordinary impact. #leadership #communityimpact #volunteerism #juniorleague #WomenInLeadership #JLD #SDOH #JLDallas
We are thrilled to announce our newly slated 2025 – 2026 Board of Directors! Please join us in congratulating each of them! We are so grateful for their leadership and dedication to #JLDallas. A special thank you to Nominating Chair Carrie Hill and the Nominating Committee for their thoughtful work in slating this new Board of Directors.

I met David Baumgartner, Tresane, LLC, at a pivotal time; I recently turned 40, had gotten a divorce, was feeling burned out by my work, and I felt...stuck. I won David in a BGSHRM silent auction package. To be more clear (and a little less fun), I won his executive coaching package that he generously donated. And he quite literally changed my life. Characterized by the belief that it was my behind-the-scenes work that brought value to the world, David showed me that I could offer so much more if I would be willing to take some risks without having the whole game plan rigidly mapped out with the desired results neatly packaged up and waiting to be claimed. It was pretty vulnerable stuff for this gal that felt pretty safe in her infallible proficiency and process oriented expertise. Safe in the known. I was probably not his easiest client, as I think back over our sessions, but he was incredibly patient. I came in with respect for his experience and education, but the trust came with his intuitive and direct questions, his ability to nudge into discomfort without it feeling like a threat, and his deep listening and reflection skills. It was unlike any coaching I had ever received, he wasn't my buddy - we were getting down to business. I credit the work I did with him as the catalyst for positive life changes. I took some big risks. I enrolled at UK, without a solid financial plan to back it. I asked for a UK scholarship (that wasn't targeted to middle aged PT students), and got it. I went after the SHRM Meisinger Award, and got it. I became more active on the BGSHRM Board as Treasurer and then Presidents (elect, current). I was selected for Advancing Leadership with RMHC Global. I won the Hanna Resource Volunteer Spirit Award. I've got my eyes set on the Kellogg School of Management next. What's really cool about all of this is that my two kids get to bear witness to this and see what is possible when you're willing to choose the discomfort of change and growth. And now, all these years later, David is congratulating me while downplaying the part he played in it. If you need a coach, if you are ready to level up, or want to learn more about what it could mean for you or your team, 10/10 I recommend this guy. He won't do the work for you, but he'll show you how wildly capable you are.
Huge congratulations to Rebecca Wren, MS-SHRMA, for being recognized by KYSHRM for her exceptional volunteer leadership! We had the privilege of working with Rebecca and witnessed firsthand how aligning with her unique strengths and purpose has propelled her to remarkable achievements. Her passion, commitment, and dedication to making a meaningful impact continue to inspire us all. Rebecca, your journey is a shining example of how embracing one's authentic self can unlock incredible potential and make a lasting difference. Your leadership and volunteer spirit are a testament to the impact we can create when we align our purpose with our actions. Cheers to you, Rebecca, for all that you contribute to the community and beyond!
