✨ Sleepless nights and endless questions - sound familiar? ✨ When I became a mom, I quickly realized how little support there was for parents struggling with infant sleep. I felt overwhelmed, exhausted, and desperate for answers. That’s what led me to become a certified pediatric sleep coach. I didn’t just want to help my own family, I wanted to empower other parents to navigate these challenges with confidence. I chose the Baby-Led Sleep Approach because it aligns with my values: gentle, responsive, and rooted in trust. This isn’t about one-size-fits-all solutions or “cry it out.” It’s about working with your baby’s natural rhythms and creating healthy sleep habits that honor your unique family. Helping families thrive with this approach is one of the most rewarding parts of my journey. 💕 If you’re ready to leave sleepless nights behind, let’s chat! 🌙 #MyLittleDreamer #infantsleep #toddlersleep #newmom #momlife #pediatricSleepCoach #GentleParenting #BabySleepTips

Sleepless Nights? Let’s Talk Realistic Expectations. It’s completely okay if your baby isn’t sleeping through the night yet. But with so much pressure from social media and even some pediatricians, many parents feel like they’re doing something wrong if their child doesn’t sleep through at just 4 months old. The truth? There’s a big difference between waking once or twice versus every hour, and this is where teaching the skill of sleep from the start makes all the difference. False expectations can leave you feeling overwhelmed, but with the right support, you can build healthy sleep habits that work for your family. As a certified pediatric sleep coach, I’m here to guide you through this process so you can give your child the tools for better sleep—and get the rest you need, too. Ready to transform your nights? Book a coaching session through the link in my profile, and let’s start this journey together! 💕 #mylittledreamer #ParentingSupport #BabySleep #PediatricSleepCoach #SleepTraining #ParentingTips #newmom #NewMomLife #MomLife #SleeplessNights #HealthySleepHabits #InfantSleep #ToddlerSleep #BabySleepTips #SleepDeprivation #ParentingJourney #MotherhoodUnplugged #FamilyWellness #Sleep

Just because your baby’s eyes are open doesn’t necessarily mean they’re awake. And the same holds true in reverse. Weird, right? During active (or REM) sleep it’s not uncommon for your baby to open their eyes for brief periods, to make noises, and to move their body actively. The (open eyes) phenomenon, known as psychological lagophthalmos, is common in newborns and may be attributable in part to immaturity of their central nervous system. The important thing here is not to be too quick to assume your little one has finished sleeping just because their eyes open. This video is a great example. Baby’s eyes are partially open, but he is in the midst active sleep (which comprises half or more of each newborn sleep cycle). Likewise, there are situations where your child may appear to be asleep, but isn’t. Particularly in bright, noisy, or otherwise overstimulating environments your child may feign sleep (when they are feeling overwhelmed) as a sort of defense mechanism. This is called habituation. And while it may look like sleep it does not provide the same restorative benefits - and often concludes with prolonged periods of crying as a sort of stress relief. Long story short, you can’t always judge your baby’s level of alertness from their eyes alone - so be sensitive and observant in both circumstances. (And if you suspect your baby is habituating due to overstimulation, try to get them to an environment better suited to their needs.) Between 7-12 months of age, there are a variety of factors that can affect a babies sleep causing some sleep disruptions at bedtime and the middle of the night. 💡 The 4 main factors affecting sleep between 7-12 months include: 1. Developing Mobility: Babies are learning to sit, roll, crawl, stand, and walk during these months. Since babies have not yet mastered these skills, they can become frustrated and self-settling can become more difficult. 🚶♀️ Tip: This is not an ideal time to transition out of the crib. The crib is the ideal sleeping environment for this age group. 💡 2. Separation Anxiety: The development of object permanence can lead to separation anxiety and a more clingy baby who may cry out more in the middle of the night. 😭 Tip: Communicate expectation and mean what you say. If you say, "goodnight, see you in the morning" but then go back in a few minutes later, it can lead to confusion and your child may expect you to come back even if you say you won't. Also, if possible, share bedtime responsibilities so your child doesn't develop an association with one parent doing bedtime and responding to night wakening's. 💡 3. Breastmilk to Formulation Transition: May initially refuse or reject the transition due to different taste and flow. 🍼 Tip: Gradually transition from breastfeeding to formula one feeding at a time and trial different nipples until you find one that works best for your baby. 💡 4. Teething: Typically starts around 6 months of age and babies tend to tolerate it better than we think they will. 😁 Tip: Massage gums or allow baby to chew on a teether or cold washcloth to help ease any teething discomfort. Can consider Tylenol, as well, per your physicians recommendation.💡 If you are navigating the challenges of your child's sleep and searching for support, DM me and let's talk about how I can help bring sleep back to your home. ❤️ #infantsleep #sleepconsultant #teething #breastmilk #formula #separationanxiety #mobility

BREASTFEEDING AND SLEEP. Breastfed babies often fall asleep during feeding due to the soothing nature of nursing. However, their sleep cycles might be shorter because breastmilk is digested more quickly than formula. Mothers who exclusively breastfeed may experience fewer sleep hours compared to others. However, they often adjust by reorganizing their time to maintain similar leisure time. Tips for Better Sleep Nurse the baby in a calm, dark environment to help them transition to sleep more smoothly. Lay the baby down slightly awake to encourage independent sleep habits. Explore strategies such as having a supportive network or practicing self-care to manage exhaustion.

The Moro Reflex is an automatic response newborn babies show when they become startled. The Moro Reflex can be extending their arms, throwing their head back and extending their legs but can differ among babies. You may have noticed that your baby is sleeping soundly when all of a sudden their arm jerks and wakes them up. Once a baby's necks can start supporting the weight of their head they typically start experiencing less moro reflexes, usually around 4 months. The moro reflex is a normal reaction in healthy babies and you should not be concerned if you see these responses. Swaddles and sleep sacks are a great way to calm to moro reflex. Dreamland Baby has a line of incredible weighted swaddles and sleep sacks.
