🚨 The Struggle of Finding a Well-Paying, Flexible Writing Position 🚨 As a writer, finding a position that not only pays well but also offers the flexibility to maintain a healthy work-life balance feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. 📝💼 What’s even more disheartening is seeing job postings with unrealistic qualifications. Just recently, I came across a listing asking for applicants with a PhD for a role that only paid $15 an hour. 😳 In what world is that fair? All of that education for $15 an hour is insane! Many companies and agencies now require years of experience, a portfolio full of high-profile clients, and an endless list of technical skills for what’s supposed to be an entry-level position. This leaves so many talented writers, who are passionate and ready to work, shut out by unrealistic demands and shockingly low pay. 🔍 Where are the fair opportunities for writers who deserve to be compensated for their skills and dedication? It’s becoming harder and harder to find. To my fellow writers: Don’t give up. Keep building your portfolio, honing your craft, and seeking out those opportunities that value your talent. Have any of you experienced this? Let’s talk about it below. #WritingCareers #EntryLevelWriters #JobSearchStruggles #WritersOfLinkedIn #CreativeJobs #AmWriting #FreelanceWriters #JobSearchHardships #RealTalk #UnrealisticExpectations

🌟 Building Trust and Stability in Content Writing Jobs 🌟 Lately, I've come across numerous stories of academic content writers facing harsh penalties for reworks, hours of delay, or other minute factors that are often beyond their control. Some employers deduct salaries for each rework or hour of delay, which feels like treating creative professionals as though they’re on a production line. Content writing is far from a factory-based job; it’s a profession where quality is paramount and requires ongoing development. Yes, a high standard of writing is essential, but isn't it also the responsibility of an organization to train their writers and ensure team leaders and quality controllers are equipped to guide and support? Since founding Wordsmith Academics four years ago, I've held a firm commitment to our team: no penalties, no salary delays. Even when I almost closed shop due to unexpected challenges, everyone was paid on time and in full. Stability and respect aren’t just promises; they are the foundation of how we work here. If you’re looking for a stable, in-office academic content writing position where professionalism is valued, reach out! Let’s connect and see how we can grow together in a supportive, positive environment. 💼 #ContentWriting #StabilityInWork #QualityAndRespect #WordsmithAcademics #Hiring #ContentWriters #assignment #academicwriting #assignmenthelp #academicwriter #academiccontent #hiringcontentwriters

I used to think that being a writer would be an easy job. I was good at words and I had plenty of ideas, but that was before I started writing. I realized that I didn’t have a nice style or a cohesive voice in my writing. Everything I wrote was complete and total garbage. So of course, I threw myself into crafting my voice and style. I even went to college and majored in Professional and Technical Communication, a.k.a English. After I graduated, I thought it would be easy to get hired at a company as a writer or editor. After I was ghosted by +400 companies though, I began thinking otherwise. At first, I thought that my resumé wasn’t up to par, or that I didn’t have enough experience, or that I was too persistent in following up. But it wasn’t that I wasn’t good enough or didn’t have enough experience, it was that a lot of companies hired through third parties, go figure. While I was applying for my dream writing jobs, I started working on my social media presence to get experience. I created my website, got my writing published in multiple literary magazines, published a book, and helped other people get better at writing. I even branched out into creating brand identities to add some skills to my resume and to help other people stuck in a similar predicament. Then my brand design side gig started taking off, which was exciting. I was beyond ecstatic that it was taking off and that I didn’t have to continue applying for jobs, that my dreams of being a writer and a creator were coming true. Then came this beautiful thing called AI, that could do everything I could in no time, and that allowed other people to knowingly or unknowingly steal other peoples’ work at the drop of a hat. Talk about messed up, right? I used to think that being a writer would be an easy job. I think I can say this for all us writers out there, we’re in trouble. . . . . . . . #personalstory #gettingpersonal #branding #ai #standagainstai #mustbelicensed #graphicdesign #beingawriter #writingforaliving #beawriter #careerhunting #careertips #gettingcreative #branddesigner #branddesignerforcreatives #writers #writing #authors #blogwriters #articlewriters #noplagarism #nostealingwork

I rejected a job offer because of my ignorance. The first time I received an offer to write on a topic I wasn't familiar with, my initial instinct was to reject it. But on second thought, I decided to accept the challenge. I conducted in-depth research and was able to deliver the work accurately, while also expanding my skill. This experience taught me that research is a crucial skill for technical writers and It's essential to be willing to learn and take on new challenges As a technical writer, have you ever accepted a job offer to write on a topic you're not familiar with? #techwriting #joboffer #acceptthechallenge #gloriadtechwriter

📚💡 Cracking the Code to Good Writing: Tackling Writer Challenges 🌐✍️ In the big world of creating stuff with words, finding great writers can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. 🧐📌 The internet has made lots of people into wordsmiths, but the tricky part is figuring out who's really good. 🚀 🌊 Too Many Writers, Not Enough Gems: With more people claiming to be writers online, it's hard to tell the great writers from the not-so-great ones. Also, recruiters often look for low-priced resources than quality ones which eventually results in poor quality content. 💎🪙 📑 Tricky Resumes - Playing with Words: Resumes are like quick glimpses into someone's work life, but sometimes people use fancy words that don't really show how good they are. 💼🎨 It's important for recruiters and writers to see past the fancy words and focus on what people can really do. 🔍 The Quest for Substance: As hiring managers, it's essential to look beyond the surface and seek substance in a writer's portfolio. 📝💪 Genuine passion, creativity, and a demonstrated ability to adapt to diverse writing styles are key indicators of a standout wordsmith. 🔄 Adapting to the Changing Tides: In a world where content is king, the ability to adapt is paramount. Writers who can seamlessly navigate various industries, tones, and formats are the true unicorns. 🦄🌐 🚀 Teamwork is the Secret: Talking openly and working together can make things better for both bosses and writers. Being clear about what you expect, your goals, and giving feedback helps make things successful. 🤝💬 Let's talk about finding great writers in our digital world. You see a job posting. You either fit the description or you don’t. Now, you either see an opportunity to learn something new or an opportunity best aligned to your profile. Which one would you prefer applying to? Just today, I read two very contradictory posts by Chris Bibey and Narmada Udayakumar and they both seem to have different opinions about this. In my opinion, over time, as we grow as professionals in a particular domain, we explore our strengths and weaknesses and adapt to a particular niche quite naturally. Having done that, it is better that we stick to opportunities that align the best with our experience. While learning something new can be an interesting way to grow as well, I believe applying to such positions put the potential candidates in a risky position. What do you think? #writers #contentwriting #contentwriter #jobhunt #jobapplication #freelancewriter

Why do companies still require complete writing samples from writers? Recently, I assumed companies and clients had moved away from the unreasonable practice of requiring assessments before offering a job. I can somewhat understand bidding for a role on a third-party website, but for a full-time position??? Last year, a prominent NGO asked me to write a full grant proposal. This involved researching available grants, writing the proposal for their company, and then defending it during the interview. Mind you, a grant proposal is one of the most challenging things I have ever written. And to make matters worse, they wanted two full proposals. If they had asked for an outline, it would have been different, but they demanded complete, award-winning proposals. If my portfolio and work experience weren't convincing enough, why invite me for an interview in the first place? A few years ago, I used to do this a lot and, honestly, I never received any responses. I was part of a forum that offered gigs occasionally, but you had to bid for them, and no matter how many times you tried, no one ever seemed to be good enough for the project. I think this practice should stop. If a candidate's profile and portfolio align with what you're looking for, give them a chance. That's why probation periods exist at work—to assess competency. Don't hide behind the excuse that someone with a convincing profile turned out to be incompetent. What do you all think about this? #writers #content #Unemployed #unemployement #linkedin #contentmarketers #contentwriters #qatar

Am I still a content writer/ghostwriter? Should I even call myself that? I started content writing/ghostwriting back in 2014. It was all bliss and success back then. Until I took a break in 2017. I completely focused on my marriage, my newborn boys and my home. A 5-year long career break. I didn't stop writing even then. It's in my DNA. I wrote quotes. Articles. Short Passages. Poetry. All in my diaries. I can't imagine ever giving up writing and poetry. But that break proved to be lethal to my career. A lot changed in those 5 years. Ways of working changed. The job market changed. COVID also contributed to changing the course of everything. When I restarted my career in 2022, I felt like a fish out of water. It was all chaos. And I learned the hard way that if you take a career break, your previous experiences, even your skills don't count anymore. You are forgotten. Your clients forget you. Your connections forget you. Even people you support forget you. Here I am, starting anew. From scratch. Again. I'm not one to give up easily. I know I never will. I am here to prove myself, to stay, to reclaim my place in the writing world and to win it! So, if you think I am still a content writer/ghostwriter (because I know I am) and you know someone who needs one, send them my way! I'll wow you with my people skills and writing! P.S. Should recruiters hire people who take career breaks? P.P.S. Do people who take career breaks deserve a second chance? #ContentWriter #GhostWriter #Careergap #Recruitment #Jobsearch #Jobseeker #RemoteJobs #LinkedInMarketing #DigitalMarketing

The problem is: "Why is this relevant only to writers?" Many writers even with a great writing style and approach are paid pennies and yes, that too after providing a free sample which is definitely not an hour's work in most cases. It is understandable if a company or client is paying for the sample task or if I don't have a relevant sample in my portfolio. Just think! Will an interior designer design a sample room for free so you can determine whether his/her taste matches your vibe? I would appreciate your views below. #freesamples #freelancing #freelancewriters

We don’t hire writers who decline to do a writing assessment. And I don’t see why this is such a debate. To be clear: 1. We DO NOT use any of the trial work 2. We STRICTLY use it to compare candidates 3. It is usually limited to 1 hour of “work” for a full-time career 4. Determines whether or not they are using AI, which we don’t encourage here It’s strictly to evaluate someone’s ability to: → Follow instructions → Complete projects in a timely manner → Write the way we need you to (arguably most important) I can sympathize with candidates not wanting to do 100 writing trials for 100 different jobs. That said, there are thousands (maybe more) writers willing to spend a couple hours on a writing assessment to prove their abilities in the context of our business. To be clear, this has only happened a few times but sparked when a very good writer which we were interested in denied to do it.

🚨 Beware of “free samples” during job applications! 🚨 Recently, I put in hours of research, writing, and editing for a writing assignment on *Accredited Translation Services in the UK* (check the sample below). This was part of a job application process, and despite submitting a thorough and well-researched piece, the response was a rejection. Now, I can't help but wonder — will my "assignment" eventually be published without my name attached? This experience highlights a common issue in the job market: Is it fair for companies to ask for highly detailed, usable content as part of an application? Yes, showcasing skills is essential, but lengthy, unpaid assignments risk turning into a free content creation exercise. 🛠️ To other writers and creatives: How do you protect your work in these situations? Do you have tips for ensuring application assignments aren’t misused? Let’s open a discussion on how to protect our hard work and expertise. #JobSearch #WritingCommunity #ContentCreation #ProtectYourWork
