Measuring Biodiversity in Regenerative Agriculture 🌱 Biodiversity is a cornerstone of regenerative agriculture, but how can it be effectively measured to track progress and ensure positive impacts? Let's dive into the key indicators used to assess biodiversity in regenerative farming systems, including soil microbial diversity, plant variety, and pollinator activity. These metrics help farmers and stakeholders understand the ecological health of their land and the broader impact of their practices. Why is #biodiversity important in agriculture, and how can we measure it? Read the full article here https://lnkd.in/e2s5UzRx #sustainability #regenerativeagriculture

I see the term "regenerative agriculture" a lot lately, used in different ways, and I keep asking myself: does it include conservation in agricultural landscapes? Regenerative agriculture goes beyond sustainable farming practices, it is about ecological balance. For some, this entails allocating more land to conservation and restoration efforts, which is good news! But could this lead us down a potentially problematic path? Not all land is suitable for conversion to agriculture, even under regenerative agriculture approaches. We must learn to recognise the value of off-farm areas and adjacent ecosystems. These areas play a vital role in providing services that benefit agricultural production, economies, and societies as a whole. #RegenerativeAgriculture #ConservationInvestment #AgriculturalLandscapes #EcologicalBalance

Soil and the human gut have historically had a similar number of active microorganisms. However, our modern lifestyle has led to a decline in beneficial microbes, just as agrochemicals and intensive farming have caused a loss of soil biodiversity. Our Building Soil, Building Equity initiative promotes soil biodiversity by funding and training farmers across Central/Southern Appalachia and the rural Southeast to adopt regenerative agriculture practices.
